bolo -> El Porompompero (Jul. 17 2013 14:00:56)

Hi All,

I'm having trouble trying to find the right rhythm (Ritmo?) to play El Porompompero..

I think it's a Rumba rhythm and have been learning the rumba rhythm as shown on the videos by Marcela Berestovoy in this video but don't think it's quite the same.

Does anyone know the correct rhythm or can point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance.

What is El Porompompero? Can you post a link to the actual song your trying to learn?

Paul Magnussen -> RE: El Porompompero (Jul. 17 2013 18:02:16)

It is a rumba.

Imo for that song to sound good, it needs to be played fast enough, and the use of melody notes at the right moment is important..

E - add the C note on the B string
Am - open the B string
G - open the A string and make the G string A as well
F (open 1st and 2nd string) - open the D string as well

Hope u understand what i mean and that it helps u a little bit.

So.. (E) Po (add C) rom (take off C) pom (Am) pom ....

Ha! Reminds me on my first vacation to Spain!
As flamencito says...it must be fast enough, here an example....

HI again,

Just for reference this is the video I've been watching... check out the guitarist on the far left , isn't he cool or what!?!

I must admit I find it difficult to identify the required pattern to play the rhythm.. i.e.. thumb or fingers (p,m,i) etc...

Leñador -> RE: El Porompompero (Jul. 18 2013 14:57:49)

I bet this guy and Paco Paco had some great parties back in the day lol. I think the strumming pattern is easier then it looks. Here's what I get.

Rest 2,&,3,4. Rest 2,&,3,4. Rest 2,&,3,4.....

Rest 2(am down)&(P up)3(am down)4(am down)

Overal I'm now fairly happy with my reproduction of this song, but still wish I could dislocate my wrist a little to speed things up and really be loose.

I've put up a tutorial of sorts on my Capo site for anyone else who happens to find one day they want to learn How to play El Porompompero - not sure how many that will be though :-)
