I am new here and am browsing through posts and see very little about dante here. For me cante is the most important and fundamental aspect of flamenco. every falsetto, the dance, the rhythm all are rooted in the cante and it's structure. I encourage people who want to enrich their playing to listen to cante a lot. It really makes a difference in your phrasing and lyricism.
When I began playing 18 years ago a I barely appreciated it. It scared me, actually. But it grows on you. Play along with CD's and challenge yourself to distinguish variations.
