Mclaughlin talks about growing up playing some flamenco, importance of blues roots of jazz, and why he feels the need to learn about other styles of music in order to better communicate with musicians he loves.

Any excuse really to post some Joscho.

Here we get Stevie Ray Vaughan to Danny Gatton to Earl Skruggs to Antonio Lauro to Martin Taylor to Merle Travis to Kenny Burell to Joseph Rhendhart to Django and that is just the intro. And every note means something.

No wonder the other lead player is intimidated. I'm only dissapointed Joscho couldn't shoe horn in one of his other heroes, Santana.

And some old fusion.

Django tries to combine Ravel, Stravinsky,Chopin, flamenco and one blues lick.

Two fingers and off the cuff.

And Yngwie invented sweep picking [:D]

Arguably my number one inspiration... it's absolutely scary how similar he sounds to my teacher Anatoly Shapiro, who lived in Russia until about 1992/1993, and his only exposure to Brazilian music was Villa-Lobos, Pernambuco, etc... Baden Powell is the man. :)

Fun here exploring this phenomena.(also works with entre dos aguas). I find these changes fascinating as they are the mirror image of Autumn Leaves, Arguably based on breaking down Andalucian Cadence.

Yes, indeed, Daniel, Baden Powell is awesome. What a great breadth of music he was able to play during his career. I don't like what is normally called "fusion", but I do like Baden Powell.
