I started classical/flamenco guitar lessons 10 months ago. At that time, I bought an inexpensive beginner classical guitar for around $250. Now, I realize I enjoy playing Flamenco style and want to upgrade to a really nice sounding, easy playing flamenco for around $2,000 to $4,000 tops. So, I started looking at guitar forum sites - like this one - and internet sites for various flamenco guitar brands and makers. It all seems so overwhelming and confusing! Of couse, an internet site for a specific maker or brand of guitar says that theirs is "the best". Or, I might read comments about a specific guitar from a player who has negative comments. How do I find someone who is knowledgeable about flamenco guitars who will honestly guide me through this confusing process? Am I better in buying a new guitar from a dealer or do I buy a used one from a dealer or private party? I appreciate anyone who can help. I live in Orange County, California.

Try to contact Anders (member of this site), he is a luthier who makes flamenco and classical guitars.He is friendly guy who will help you.I bought a guitar from him, so I know what I'm talking about.

Hi there! You'll definitely want to register as a member of this forum first, simply because it's like NO OTHER. It's an amazing source for all things flamenco and it's no crappy spam filled forum. In fact it's my only door to flamenco where I stay. You can learn things like technique, compas and so much more.

Right in this forum, is the online home of a great luthier Anders Eliasson. He may not be that well know yet but all those who have purchased guitars from him have yet to regret anything. Who knows what they'll be worth some years later? [;)]

And we also have Tom of lafalseta.com who is probably the best way to obtain Spanish handmade guitars. It's also probably much safer with far more honest and personalised service.

We've got lots of experienced players and flamenco enthusiasts here who'll be more than glad to help you along the way. I've learnt alot through this forum and I'm sure everyone else did.

I feel that you should get a luthier guitar as your budget is good enough for one. If I had that kind of money, I'd go for an Anders negra. Hear some sound samples and views some photos at www.eliassonguitars.com

I would like to add to what Skai says with respect to Anders Eliasson.
Very nice guitars (I have a Blanca), truly handbuilt with a passion, by a very knowlegeable and genuine luthier. Mine is dream to play, light, comfortable, responsive, bags of tone.

Have a chat with him before you make a decision, I'm sure you will get some very good advice. [:)]
