etta -> new Glenn Canin double top (nomex) flamenco (May 14 2013 15:54:01)

This new Brazilian/spruce flamenco double top w/nomex is for me in a class by itself. I have a number of guitars including some outstanding Canins', but this one is even more special. Glenn's guitars are known for their powerful and percussive qualities. This double top has more, plus an incomparable level of clarity. The guitar does have slightly more sustain than others but with its clarity and precision there is no compromise in its flamenco nature whether singing sweetly or with growling roar. The guitar is also beautiful and has an action that is low and fast. The traditionalist on this forum will certainly be skeptical, and that is right and good to question. But, I believe we will see more of these fine guitars, and soon.(front photo)

Why are you posting this, are you a "compensated spokesperson"?

Beg your pardon, Paul; but I have paid for this guitar dearly and like anyone who purchases a flamenco product, I choose to review it. I have never met Glenn Canin but do own some guitars he built. Let's be clear here.. I am not in any way "compensated" for my review, good or bad. I suppose it is alright with you to positively review a corporate product here; but not one built with the sweat of one's brow and hands? Good grief! Jack

Sweat? Oh, thats nasty..

Thats why I only buy factory made guitars [sm=lol.gif]

It's the product reviews section need one say more? I'm sure there are plenty out there curious about double-tops in a flamenco guitar. I know I am. Etta has some great Canin's to make a proper comparison to sonically.

@Rui, your emoticon should see the doctor about that bad facial tic. [:D]

His whole upper torso is shaking because he is stroking his...

...guitar and singing "Falsetaaaaah, knocked down it came up behind me" while playing a flamenco version of Pulverized by CC.

Leñador -> RE: new Glenn Canin double top (nomax) flamenco (May 14 2013 20:52:00)

LOL, this isn't happening falsetaaaaaaa!

Sr. Martins -> RE: new Glenn Canin double top (nomax) flamenco (May 14 2013 21:25:35)

Maybe he isnt saying "falsetaaa" but he's certainly talking about "playing pieces in Mi" so Iam pretty sure this is some sort of solea.

There is a fellow wanting to share his enthusiasm about a guitar, and gets his thread filled with unrelated smirk.

Mostly just alright; OT being with us like with a big family; only that it felt a bit misplaced to me in this thread / state.

( I´d like to contribute, but my double-layer ecperience is restricted to merely a classical of mine with a double back, and no nomex involved, naturally.
- Besides that double back was good for an anecdote, when a local classical player looked inside and promptly remarked: "That is a cheap one. Outside RW, inside spruce; obviously laminated". hehe
An advanced player with a huge repertoir, but used only to beginner guitars and unable to recognize a fine concert level guitar in the same time.)

These unrelated responses are a good reason for more moderators...

For the banter above??? I respect you Don but that's way extreme. We don't need a moderator to chime in with "Stay on topic or else!". It was a product review, not a question, which I do appreciate etta, Glen's double tops have always intrigued me so thanks for your review.

I am amazed sometimes when serious posts are hijacked by individuals who, out of boredom, need for ego affirmation, or whatever, make legitimate and serious subjects of interest into a joke. Humor aside for a moment, after playing this new double top guitar for almost two month, it is astounding.

z6 -> RE: new Glenn Canin double top (nomax) flamenco (Jun. 23 2013 14:56:55)

Hey Etta!

Glad to see you got the guitar. I'm happy that you like it.

How are the golpes? Did Mr. Canin do anything special to protect the top? My guitar (nomex sandwich top... not a Canin) gives a great big racket, like a drum. I love it. But I still cannot bring myself to fit permanent golpeadors. I use four layers of kling-ons taped on. I'm worried that If I have to take off permanent ones that the outer skin will come with them.

etta -> RE: new Glenn Canin double top (nomax) flamenco (Jun. 24 2013 15:59:54)

Hey z6: the golpes are fine, very resonant; it appears standard tap plates were applied. We discussed this issue, and Glenn felt the top would do fine. It has been played everyday for months without any indication of structural compromise. This guitar is even more responsive than the other Canins I play. It is so balanced and clear across and up and down the neck. You have found this to also be true of your double top. I am very confident about the guitar's durability but time will tell.

etta, I have a 2010 blanca(not double top) from Glenn that I am crazy about. Your description is very accurate. Mine is has very flamenco sound and feel, with a nearly classical broadness in tone at times that somehow does not get in the way with the separation we need in flamenco. Best neck I've ever owned and I have yet to find a louder blanca. She's a beast! I'm a big fan of his art, and he's a great guy too. Really took the time to make sure I had what I wanted.

El Comanche; I also have a spruce/blanca (not doubletop) by Canin, 2011. It is very dry, but can produce much color as well. It also is very, very powerful and percussive, great flamenco sound, and yes the action is for me, perfect.
