I am buying a reasonably expensive (3000 euro) hand crafted flamenco guitar from a very well respected luthier. The French polish finish has been marred a little in the process of making the guitar. I have been offered a small discount because it is an aesthetic imperfection but I am feeling a little sad because I don’t know how I feel about this. I suppose my question is what would you do?

If you like the guitar just buy it, especially if you can get a discount of say, 300Euro?

It won't be long before there are other marks too, if you play it often.

Just buy it if you really like it and you're getting a good deal. Minor cosmetic flaws are largely meaningless. In any case French Polish is fairly easily touched up.

"perfect" guitars scare me. I won't touch them.

I wouldn't consider a small mark a problem. It shows character.

I thought one of the benefits of French Polish was ease of fixing, if you're buying
from a Luthier - Then why do they not simply fix it?

Finish imperfections mean nothing. You're going to pick up a few scuffs and scratches over time anyway. Buy it to play it, not look at it.

My best guitar (which I bought used) has some battle damage to the finish on the top, but my ears can't see it.

I feel like a golpeador would've prevented a big chunk of that.......

That happened before I got ahold of it. I bought it for a cedar top classical, but it looks like the previous owner may have used it for Flamenco, or just rested his fingertips on the top.

The guitar plays nice and sounds fantastic. Not to concerned about looks beyond that. I may refinish one day, but that prospect kinda scares me.

I wonder how much money something like that would cost to fix?

I would consider 12 hole bridge on that. Some shellac with right color might fade the visibility or the scratches.

And yes guitar HAS to have some imperfections, just like people[;)]
