Has anyone transcribed Don Cortes Maya by Rafael Cortes yet? It is by far one of my favorite Granainas and would love to learn to play it.

Kenjo, you may have seen this already, but in case you did not, it seems like a fine 'starting' point [with tabs] ...

But I too look forward to seeing Doits' complete tabs.

Yeah, I've see that one. It is a piece from the Granaina named 'Del Hoy al Ayer'. I'm looking for the 'Don Cortes Maya' piece.

Doitsujin,

If you have it I would be eternally grateful if you would pass it on.

Sorry, I did not realize you had mentioned the exact title of it... a beautiful composition indeed, and quite advanced a hurdle, are you that good, Kenjo? If so, perhaps, this could be the subject of the next 'advanced challenge' [?]

kenjo138 -> RE: Rafael Cortes Granaina (Apr. 11 2013 4:31:26)

I can't say I'm at the level of Rafael Cortes, but I think I may be to pull it off at a lower tempo.

Doitsujin -> RE: Rafael Cortes Granaina (Apr. 11 2013 11:59:21)

Rafael played that one in an easy version on eclipse de la luna. Before that..there was another guy called Urbano Cuesto. He was teacher of Rafael when Rafael was younger. Rafael composed that Granaina but Urbano stole it and put it on his CD (not available in shops).. that was a douche move..but.. funny story. haha

Ok Im at home checking my old HDs. Rafael showed that one to me actually..oh man, Im so cool. Rafael is cool too. yes,..we are both so cool. And you guys are cool too. Everybody is really cool right now, I feel... cool. :)

ok jokes aside check the file..change .jpg to .pdf
sorry for the poor quality..I wrote that one 2004 as it looks like and just photographed with my ****ty 2004 camera..haha.. but its readable. And dont forget..its the transcription of the original version and before he showed me the fingering some years later..but its 96% accurate. Hf! ;)

EDIT: Just decided, I´ll get you a link via PM this or next night.

Wow! That is a really interesting anecdote about the song. I did not know that. Rafael Cortes seems like a really cool guy. I befriended him a while ago on facebook and every once in a while he posts some interesting vids.

Doitsujin -> RE: Rafael Cortes Granaina (Apr. 12 2013 14:42:18)

Im at work.. will reach home next morning... will put it back up then.

sorry again.

Erik van Goch -> RE: Rafael Cortes Granaina (Apr. 12 2013 15:12:00)

In the television series Dexter he played a granainas that was even more impressive...parts of it sounds like PDL in his best years. Does anyone know if it also appears on one of his records in a complete flamenco piece (granainas or otherwise)?

Hey Doitsujin,

I was wondering whether you found the transcription of this Granaina. I would really appreciate it.

Could you send that to me as well? thanks in advance

rombsix -> RE: Rafael Cortes Granaina (Mar. 16 2014 23:21:27)

I just tried that first bit of the piece. How the HELL does Rafa stretch his pinky that far while holding down the middle & ring finger like that? He has fingers on the 5th frets & then pinky stretches to 8th fret on the high E string. [:D] God damn he either has stretchy fingers or humongous hands. [8D] The piece is not hard to pick up by ear though...

Here is a link to the video with the audio's pitch brought to standard tuning (it was off by a few cents) & then raised two half-steps. That way you can put a capo on the second fret & play along with Rafa so that you can get some of those stretches to become more manageable. It is also slowed down to 70% & the audio's pitch is maintained. Perhaps this might be of some help...

Cheers!

PS: Here's a teaser...

Precise playing as usual, Romb.

RC is a favorite of mine. He has a number of short clips where he demonstrates different picado runs. The clips seem really impromptu and may only have been for his own benefit or to test a new webcam, etc.
