Yeah, I think the kid in the second video either was playing the wrong chords or his guitar was out of tune or something...I love her voice though

Interesting fact about the second video is the song was written by Nino Miguel and Julio Iglesias

?????????whaaaaaaat????? Niño Miguel is one of favorite players. It seems weird to think about them making music together, I can't picture it.....

mark74 -> RE: Are these flamenquitos tangos or rumbas? (Apr. 6 2013 19:32:04)

this also confuses me, because i see rumba por tangos or tango por rumbas a lot of places...is it the right had technique that makes it rumba, while the compas and chord progression make it tango...or is it just the cante?

is there a different right had pattern for rumba por tango...it seems like most flamenco-pop is written in this format

mark74 -> RE: Are these flamenquitos tangos or rumbas? (Apr. 6 2013 19:33:41)

oh yes it happened one night in 1987 ... they tripped on blotter acid and PdL played the sax solo

athrane77 -> RE: Are these flamenquitos tangos or rumbas? (Apr. 6 2013 19:52:39)

rumba-tangos is a lot more faster than tangos, it is just something between Rumba and Tangos
you probably hear it a lot in fiestas and juergas
muy festero

Aside from youtube, where uploaders could write what they want to decribe and label their files, what are these 'lot of places' you're talking about?

Personnaly, I never heard about it...

mark74 -> RE: Are these flamenquitos tangos or rumbas? (Apr. 7 2013 20:05:52)

I guess just as a search function on Google. I live in Illinois, USA not Andalucia, so what I know I know from the internet

Here is an example of a piece that is both tango and rumba at once even without explicitly being called such

No!
I don't know where you hear tangos flavor in there but that's a rumba catalana a la Peret style, no more.

If you search the foro archives, you may found a not too old topic, where these stuff were discussed. It was also a polemical one [;)]

mark74 -> RE: Are these flamenquitos tangos or rumbas? (Apr. 7 2013 20:31:15)

In the palmas and in the section at 2:19..that sounds like a tangos cante to me

Also I did look at that and left even more confused

Yeah, that part is an estrebillo (a chorus). It changes the harmony to something with more andalusian flavor, but that's not a tangos, it's still rumba.

Welcome to the club! [:D]

mark74 -> RE: Are these flamenquitos tangos or rumbas? (Apr. 7 2013 20:47:28)

i have to more research on rumba catalana, but i appreciate your help

this last video is straight cuban rumba...even if the group is spanish you could hear that on any given day in miami

mezzo -> RE: Are these flamenquitos tangos or rumbas? (Apr. 7 2013 21:07:46)

Ricardo -> RE: Are these flamenquitos tangos or rumbas? (Apr. 9 2013 1:31:25)

The funny thing is that a pretty good tango player from argentina ones claimed that tango came from Spain :-)

ida y vuelta....y ida...

e ida

"y" becomes "e" when it precedes a word that begins with the "i" sound, while "o" becomes "u" when it precedes a word that begins with the "o" sound. [;)]

Examples:

Estudié lenguaje e ingeniería. (I studied language and engineering)

Reciben tratamiento cruel e inhumano. (They are receiving cruel and inhumane treatment.)

Castelat -> RE: Are these flamenquitos tangos or rumbas? (Apr. 10 2013 1:34:38)

And yes tangos came from Argentina, like colombianas came from Colombia, fandangos from Mexico or Perú and guajiras from Cuba, etc. Its called "ida y vuelta" because the rythms were influenced between Spain and Latin America during the colony and after the independence. And if 'm not wrong rumbas also came from Cuba.

Castelat -> RE: Are these flamenquitos tangos or rumbas? (Apr. 10 2013 1:47:21)

This is Tangos, I love this song [:(]

[Te quiero niña te quiero ayyy
Te quiero niña te quiero…
De tanto mirar tu cara…
Por dentro me muero muero te quiero… x2]

[guitar solo]

Yeah beautiful song

I love Chiquete's vocal style..its not harsh and thats refreshing

Can you tell if the first 2 songs posted are tangos or rumbas?

Its confusing because they both use the same compas..I'm thinking the distinction is only in the right hand technique

Castelat -> RE: Are these flamenquitos tangos or rumbas? (Apr. 10 2013 4:13:15)

In my opinion the first one is a mix of pop, jazz, rumba and tangos, the second one is pop-rumba with tangos, but maybe I'm wrong. For me these kind of songs are difficult to categorize because they are mixed.

Fué un ejemplo de oración para Ricardo. Se me vino a la mente en ese momento, no lo hice con motivos de alarde, pero si estoy estudiando ingenieria electronica.
