Yes Ricardo explained it better than me. And yes practise technics with easy falsetas in compas is the right way I think. And at home I play 90% with metronome.. some month ago it was damaged, so I trained my dog doing the compas. (^_-) But hes very shy he doesnt bark on tape..[&:]

Oh Kate I didnt translate the word toddler,.. I understood that a baby with 21days of age claped the compas..Sorry for that. I never heared the word toddler before. It sounds like a name of an Orc-race for me.

But allways when I train new stuff I play it for hours and I cant stop playing until it begins to hurt. Than I do a short pause and start again. Sometimes I use cold water to be able to go on playing. ^^ Ok its not good to practice like that when you dont know where the point is, where to stop to prevent injury... But for me it works fine.

Serious question: How do you do that ? If I practise that much, my nails can't keep up (the growing). So what kind of treatment do you give to your nails ?

Doitsujin -> RE: Learning flamenco guitar (Oct. 26 2005 22:40:12)

Yes the nails,.. that was a hard problem in past. I have very weak nails. If I would play without protection, they break with the second picado. So in past when I got warm, my protection broke and the training ended before the climax..... And the second problem was that I cant controll the guitar as usual if the protection is to big. I need very very thin protection and robust protection. And it have to be flexible.
I use a special glue which woman use for glueing fakenails on the nails. I dont use the glue alone. I use one piece silken on the nail, than some glue. When its hard I polish it and put one more drop glue on the nail. Than its very very thin like normal nails, flexibel and the protection holds for..3-5 days. Than I put it off and make it new. I drink every day magnesium and calcium..maby that works, too... When I put the protection from my nails, my nails dont get damaged. Maybe the glue is good for that. In the glue is no solvent. It takes 10-15min to get dry.
I hope I could help. If you want I will look for some links in the net to the products I use. Maybe you find something like that at your area, too.

I've not heard of calcium or magnesium helping nails (other things yeah, not nails). Biotin is good to thicken nails (google it up).

Doitsujin -> RE: Learning flamenco guitar (Oct. 27 2005 8:14:18)

Calcium is shurely good for hair, fingernails, footnails and skin. Magnesium raises the amount of calcium which the body can assimilate. In the net are many mistakes.. maybe you was on the wrong pages. Biotin is good too for nails,.. but I dont need other products. And Ca and Mg are very cheap.
I started drinkin it coz I often had cramps..(not in my head) [;)] Magnesium helps against it.
Here pics of the products I use.. Its allways ambrassed to buy produkts in gaypackage[&:]

[:D] LOL 'toddler' as in someone who toddles ! I'll keep you posted on when the baby in question starts clapping of her own accord but right now she has help. Shame about the dog being so shy [;)]

Indeed. You could have dressed it up in a little Flamenco outfit, recorded and album and toured the world as "Doitsujin Con El Perro De Ritmo". [:D]

Yeah Florian amigo...but you always just tickle the strings as far as I can hear...
I can't see you even coming close to breaking a nail [:D][:D]
But if that's your style then who am I to argue?
(Actually I'm playing a bit softer these days too, to be honest...[8|])

Ron

I might do that at home but in class i acompany 30 Angry women all doing footwork on the top of theyr lungs unplugged.

The tickeling effect i really belive is something to do with my sound setup or my recording technique or my guitar cause you wouldnt wanna push harder then i allready do.

Ricardo -> RE: Learning flamenco guitar (Oct. 28 2005 3:20:52)

Ron, sorry, man I can't copy/paste....weird! In response, to Kate's point you made, I ask HOW does a 14 year old EXPRESS a rhythm? The way she would involves SOME sort of technique that was learned. A lot of folks learning palmas, can't make the sound, much less the correct rhythm, ya know?

Anyway, off topic, I met Patrick and his lovely daughter in Portland. It was just one show, not a tour. I though he would have made comments by now. I don't like to comment about my own playing in shows, I can always have done better you know? I played Rondena solo, and buleria with cajon. Patrick said the sound was too bassy, but we had great sound in the monitors on stage. I think the sound guy did NOT have the house system on, and the audience was hearing the back side of our monitors! LOL [:D] There is a link to a review at www.dcflamenco.com (sorry can't paste it) Anyway, for another thread...

Nealf, Doit had me rolling on the floor. In case he does not know (hard to believe, it is so funny), DOITSUJIN-your post was full of sexual inuendo.[:D]

Florian, I don't know man, I have yet to meet anyone who plays HARD for dancers...without "protection", [;)]

Ricardo

lol , well hi, nice to meet you Ricardo [:D]

I used everything , acrillic, glue, i found that once you start you have to keep going cause all this acctualy weakens your nails if you can go about 2 months just letting your nails recover, i think in my case is a combination of I drink 2 litres of ice coffe every day, I like my nails very short only enough to just see the edge if you look at your palm so really theres no natural place it can brake.

Also technique has alot to do with it, when i started i used to brake nails and strings twice a week, now i cant even remember last time i broke a string and its been 2 years since i broke a nail, i am aware of the kind of struming angle that makes you brake nails but if your nails are short and you are concious of the angles of the struming u can avoid nail brakedge as i am sure you allready know.

I mean yeah there could be the odd time at a party when you pissed (aussie slang, drunk) and trying to impress a chick who is so hot half hungarian half asian and shes smilling at you and you think oh i am in but then she tells you shes got a boyfriend, you just dont care about the nails but thats just hypothetical.

Doitsujin u need to stop learning all your english from pornos [:D]

But serious i hate the sound of my picado today, should my finghers be more erect ? or mibe they are too hard, mibe i need some vaseline like what paco uses. Or mibe i should not be playing so close to the soundHole. Sometime i like to use my midlle fingher to gently tap the accent right above the hole.[:D]
