Not sure about those, but I had a Calton, and it was a trusty case. most the impact was taken care by the exterior of the case since it had a rigid exterior , interior of the case was not that soft

It's the way the energy is absorbed and spreads across the material, not just the way it is cushioned although the foam used in these cases is a major factor in their quality as well. Carbon fiber absorbs and spreads the energy across its surface without compromising its structural integrity better than a lot of other hard materials. Plus, it's lightweight. That's why it's being used for the shells in high end guitar cases as well as bicycles and cars. There are a lot of engineering papers about it online if you want to do some heavy technical reading.

Good question - I'd be interested to hear from some of the top case makers on this.

All I can say is that I think good fitment is absolutely key for proper protection. As I've mentioned on here before, a buddy of mine had one of his guitars in a deluxe Calton case that wasn't a perfect fit, which allowed the guitar to shift slightly inside the case. It was dropped by an airline at some point during his travels, and the subsequent force that was transferred to his $10k guitar split the neck.
