Weren't there already 5 million threads on this? Anyway kudo has the two previous DVDs so he can probably comment on the general quality.

This video was uploaded 2 days ago so they're probably releasing it soon. I'm personally more interested in Jeronimo's new album though, which they want to release simultaneously.

some of the previous ones took undeserved bashing

i remember some comment about the Paco Fernandez vids being too hard - this one from Jeronimo will probably be harder!

I think I need the Glossary now.

Anyone know what El Cantor and Cejilla techniques are.
In the video El Cantor looks like some kind of rasgueo....

Also what is his Canorroto flamenco guitar technique ?

I searched and found Canorroto is a school in Madrid.
and that "A lot of the canorroto guys like Jeronimo, Jesus, etc love to do rasgeos just with I and M"

http://www.foroflamenco.com/tm.asp?m=126084&appid=&p=&mpage=1&key=canorroto&tmode=&smode=&s=#126174

Can anyone enlighten me ?

Cheers

caño roto is a barrio in madrid, and the gitanos there have their particular playing style, it's not necessarily a "school". El entri teaches that style in madrid, so in that sense there is a "school" of sorts but its the same as any other method of teaching guitar in spain.

Cejilla is using the barre of the index finger. El cantor not sure but my guess is tremolo or something. The pulgar techniques don't seem to be on the list either.

johnnefastis -> RE: New Flamenco Guitar Maestro Classes Caño Rotoy by Jerónimo Maya dvd (Mar. 25 2013 21:34:33)

Thanks Ricardo.

Maybe El canto is tremolo with the thumb then ?[;)]

HolyEvil -> RE: New Flamenco Guitar Maestro Classes Caño Rotoy by Jerónimo Maya dvd (Mar. 25 2013 22:07:07)

Is Maya a student of the Cano Roto school in Madrid? Taught by El Entri etc?

elroby -> RE: New Flamenco Guitar Maestro Classes Caño Rotoy by Jerónimo Maya dvd (Mar. 25 2013 23:07:56)

El Entri is part of the Jimenez family, he's Jesus de Rosario dad and is widely respected in Cano Roto, an excellent teacher. However at his school he teaches a very traditional style, with lot's of Sabicas and a big emphasis on technique, at least when I was there.

Anyone purchase yet? Reviews?

aeolus -> RE: New Flamenco Guitar Maestro Classes Caño Rotoy by Jerónimo Maya dvd (May 10 2013 19:11:57)

Looks like Jeronimo has gone mainstream. Too bad. I liked him better before La Sonanta made him get a hair cut. I don't know if this is flamenco, but it's not calcified I think.

Hi

All of these Jerónimo Maya threads have all gone quiet.
Did anyone get the DVD ? I would love to hear more about it.

Cheers

Guest -> RE: New Flamenco Guitar Maestro Classes Caño Roto by Jerónimo Maya dvd (Jul. 4 2013 11:58:42)

I have the DVD ..
Was advertise here in foro
Lucky Sean lived in the same town
So watched it several times over the last month
Some very interesting techniques presented
Fret tapping
Ie with right hand fret/tap E on 12th fret 6th string
Left hand hammers E on 7th astring and B 9th on fourth ( power chord )
Played in triplets in context of buleria
Like satriani's 'midnight'... Same technique but on bass strings
Single string rasquedo to emulate tremelo , Ist string only

The book is beautifully presented and very clearly transcribed
The compositions are stunning
Good picado exercises
Not much in the way of pulgar
Very modern sounds harmonically .. Say similar to what some Brazilian guitarists are doing
The Family Juerga is great watching
Leonides looks like a merchant banker .. A little disconcerting visually .

Not sure he presents himself as a great teacher.. More a display of his current virtuosity ..also a bit of promotion for his Lazarides signature guitars... Though he family seem to agree nothing will ever beat a good media Luna

Just some overall thoughts
But very well produced...
Lots of info with a variety of subjects..
Will try add more if needed..happy to add more detail

You could rip it, then we wouldnt have to bother you with more detaills. [:D]

Guest -> RE: New Flamenco Guitar Maestro Classes Caño Roto by Jerónimo Maya dvd (Jul. 4 2013 12:22:59)

Ah that moral dilemma !! [:)]
Though very keen to have a look at Myrddin or Paco Fernandez volumes...

Sr. Martins -> RE: New Flamenco Guitar Maestro Classes Caño Roto by Jerónimo Maya dvd (Jul. 4 2013 12:38:29)

In fact this is one of the few things that I regularly check for availability at some "places" [:-]

No luck though [:D]

Hey Val cheers for the review.

That actually sounds a lot more like a Satch piece called 'The Headless Horseman'

Not up on my satch but that sounds right [:)]
Jeronimo mentions his admiration for electric guitarists and their techniques in the DVD
To me it does'nt work as a through composed idea more as a 'party trick' in relation to his bulerias...
A lot of rattling and extraneous noise to my ear...unlike the smooth sound of the above video

Yeah for sure. Even leo Brower has a pieces ideas using these textures. 'Cuban Landscape With Bells' is real good.

Without a doubt the master of that style is far and away Stanley Jordan. Makes all these Andy McKee clones look like children. There is a nice masterclass where he talks about setting up his electric to get rid of the 'puffiness' and the unwanted behind the fret multiphonics.

The two Satch Pieces are actually really easy. For Midnight tie a sock round the first fret and the other piece mute the treble strings with ulnar side of RH palm. You need a guitar with slimline frets well polished.

Best solution on nylon string is to hammer on with two fingers spread far apart so as to mute the multiphonic.

Some other players, like Preston Reed, actually encourage the 'complexity' of the handling noise.

Guest -> RE: New Flamenco Guitar Maestro Classes Caño Roto by Jerónimo Maya dvd (Jul. 4 2013 13:38:18)

A style I've never really looked at...used to teach midnight to kids a decade or so ago...heard about the sock...I just used a capo directly on the nut... Seemed to help
Not a huge Jordan fan but appreciate what's going on there... Like the sonic texture of Tuck Andress though

On topic ?

guitarbuddha -> RE: New Flamenco Guitar Maestro Classes Caño Roto by Jerónimo Maya dvd (Jul. 4 2013 13:47:06)

Yeah Jordan is a little clunky at times but I think but what he is doing is miles and miles ahead of all the imitators.

Andress is Terrific. I wish he would do another solo album as I don't like the duet stuff so much.

Best Tuck has to be the Schubert Ave Maria.... done in the style of a pedal steel country solo !!!! With reverse bent double stops...... sickeningly good.

The Headless horseman thing is still pretty much Eddie Van Halen but Midnight is lifted directly from four beater classical marimba technique, probably the innovation Satriani will be remembered for.

I see he's beaten us to it [:o]

tri7/5 -> RE: New Flamenco Guitar Maestro Classes Caño Rotoy by Jerónimo Maya dvd (Jul. 4 2013 14:34:57)

Whatever happened to Jeronimo's album that was supposed to coincide with this DVD?

johnnefastis -> RE: New Flamenco Guitar Maestro Classes Caño Rotoy by Jerónimo Maya dvd (Jul. 5 2013 7:39:40)

Thanks for the review AlVal.

Sounds good, I for one won't be ripping it. I am sure the guys a La Sonanta are
only scraping by with this stuff and I am looking forward to the Niño de Pura one.

Still not sure I can afford it at the mo so I am not much help anyway.

Cheers
