Miguel de Maria -> Esteban de Sanlucar Mel Bay book? (Mar. 22 2013 18:32:47)

Any of ya'll use this one? Some of the fingerings are just bizzarre! Especially the picado which seem to favor awkward string crossings.

It's really hard for me to keep up with this incredible volume of responses.

In case anyone plays this stuff, on Perfil Flamenco, reverse the RH fingering on the first picado run and that will help a lot.

Transcriptions by Manolo Yglesias? He is supposedly his student and close friend, so most likely they are correct awkward or not. I don't see a problem with changing the fingering myself, but sometimes the reason for the awkard fingering is to train i and m to be more ambidexterous so to speak.

I think in this particular case, the typesetter just screwed it up, it's literally opposite of what it should be. But you know, all this classical I've been playing might have ruined my mind!!

[:D] Segovia's issue was Left hand very rarely right hand.

I play some pieces from this book. I like that Panaderos has a second guitar that works well, I performed that 2 guitar arrangement with a friend a few years ago. I can’t remember if I changed the fingerings on Perfil Flamenco, I will check it later.

Cool, Gemelo, I watched your vid on Perfil Flamenco when I started to learn it. I think yours is the only one on Youtube. :)

Miguel Angel Cortes taught me and my class Panaderos by rote--geez, almost 10 years ago!

Miguel,
There is a new version of Perfil Flamenco (and other great pieces) performed by Oscar Herrero.

I love the Guajira Caña de Azúcar by Sabicas. I believe the book is available as well. It would be interesting to see.

Interesting, I didn't know of that. It doesn't work on my computer, but I like these composed flamenco pieces so it might be something I could just buy.

I'm not sure I would have the guts to put big pictures of Montoya and de Sanlucar on my album!
