Is there anyone out here who can tell me the basic 'chord compas' for Tangos de Malaga? Cheers! *Edit --> And what about Tangos the Triana?? Any basics to know for this palo?

It seems to me there is some close relationship with Farruca and Fandangos de Huelva?

in the solo compas series it's listed together with garrotín, and i've just listened to Mairena singing it...it's accompanied by only using E and A... Camarón sings it using A minor during the letras, and ending lines often in major A...Perico el del Lunar accompanying Paco el Gasolina seems to accompany with A minor throughout... i have nothing more on my pc to listen to in this palo unfortunately... i have to admit i have about zero experience with this palo, maybe Ricardo can help out... the compas is a "lazy" tango/tiento mixture, with more emphasis on the first beat than in usual tangos...they play the bass note or golpe on the first beat and finish of the next compas with an amii (or similar) landing on the 3rd beat

thanks for your reply xirdneH_imiJ :) I have been checking the Solo compas cd on Spotify as well.. but that one seems to be in A minor (capo on 3) isn't it? I will go check out some recordings to see if i can find it also in A major key... (*edit, Yep i hear it in the Mairena version on YouTube now ) Your description of the rhythm is very clear by the way :) So it's seems to be that this palo is played in Major or Minor keys in a Rhythm as describedby xirdneH_imiJ? Anyone else knowing some more about this palo?

When I have played it for a dancer/singer they wanted medium/slow tempo tientos/tangos compas using Am, farruca type chords. In places there was a similar aire to farruca. (I have no real knowledge- I just copied a solo compas cd!) I would guess it's the cante/letra that dicates it being called Tangos de Malaga, maybe it's more of a song than a palo?

yes its hell boring.. if you dont do the cassette player for dance.. forget about that one. Even for dance its ...horribly boring.

Typical verse: E7 - Am often a 1 compas remate here, especially if done with a dancer A7 - Dm A7 - Dm (or Dm - A7 - Dm) E7 - Am E7 - Am, briefly change to A7 Dm - E7 - Am E7 - Am This can be done quite slow (like a farruca) or faster, more like a regular tango. Some singers will switch between major and minor - so in the salida you might hear E7 - A - E7 - Am

I am just a starter at transcribing, theory and that kind of stuff... but am i right that the Dm chord can easily replaced with an F major flamenco chord (open 1st and 2nd string), so it's gets more a Fandangos de Huelva feel?

Tangos de Màlaga. also known as Tangos de Piyayo. is a palo muy bonito and muy apreciado: it is particularly effective as a change after Tangos de Triana. I once accompanied José Millán when he began with Tangos de Cádiz, then Triana, then Málaga and a remate por Garrotín! They all work together being 4/4 but with variation of soniquete.

At 1:50 the tonos change to phyrgian but it's still tangos de malaga as per REPOMPA de malaga.

La Repompa hija still sings very well: I heard her in the Peña de Juan Breva with Paco de Antiquera ( a very underrated tocaor) and she was great.

In the cante, there's also a F that pop up from time to time. I have troubles to get that one correct enough. quote: but it's still tangos de malaga as per REPOMPA de malaga. You meant de la PIRULA [;)] Nice way to sing it. 1st time I heard it, that way. I absolutly like this one. From Tomas de Perrate. Altought some people might have difficulty to acknowlegne his version as flamenco, I enjoyed it a lot. Notice @ 2'40 there's some a 'no musical' insert in it [:D] And the sequence shoot his also well done and refreshing...
