So its been a few months for me on this merry go round we call flamenco guitar, am I loving it....yes I am. Am I finding it tough.....yes indeed! !
I do have one major difficulty though that being finger nails.
Sadly I have a medical condition which leaves me in the position of the need to take steroids regularly and this has played havoc with my fingernails,or more accurately, the lack of strength in them. So folks, any suggestions?By the way, the steroids have done wonders on my bust... my wife is almost redundant except for cooking, cleaning and dealing with the children. Its good for her to have one or two constants in life though to be fair.

Get down to the nail salon, I know it's hard to bring yourself to but they really know what they're doing. I broke my thumb nail to the point of bleeding recently (first ever break) and my teacher told me to go and just ask if they can "do tips". They put some fake nail just at the tip and the coated the whole nail in some acrylic mixture. It looks natural and it's strong as a rock and it was $3!! I've attached a picture below, it's looking kinda goofy now because it's starting to grow out and I should probably have it redone. One half of my thumb is half the thickness of the other half, there's an absolute line separating it but not a split, don't know why but it's always been a pain. I'm going to keep having my thumb redone. Plus it's funny to watch people faces when they see a lumberjacky lookin dude in a Cannibal Corpse shirt getting his nails done.

You might want to check out 'guitaristsnails' on Google.

I work on a farm and break nails constantly. I've been using these self-glue-on nails for a couple of years, and I find them pretty good. In my case, much better than the acrylic nails from the nail salons. And you can fix them yourself at any time. . .

About twenty bucks for the package, but definitely worth it if you need good nails constantly. . .
