this is a long shot but considering the depth of talent here, it might be possible. when I was a little poop my mother used to sing la vie en rose to me, its edith piaf song from the 40's. right before she left and I never saw her again. anyway the song has a place in my jaded crusty soul and I am wondering if anyone might have the tab for it. I think there is sheet music for it but written for piano, (isnt everything) and that doesnt do me much good. I might even pay some ambitious soul to tab it. anyway let me know.

Can't help you there (too lazy) but funny I was gonna mention this exact piece when you asked about 3/4 because I used to play restaurant gigs with a violinist and remember reading the same piece in two different charts....one version in 3/4 the other in 6/8...to make my point about tempo relationships regarding waltz, dotted half vs dotted 8ths etc. that same music can be written in different ways but you must indicate the tempo up top.

I love that song... in fact, I really love old french songs from that period (Piaf, Serge Gainsbourg, Georges Brassens, Leo Ferrer... amazing songs!).

Here are the basic chords... you can jazz them up if you wish and try to work a chord/melody version from there... it's a good exercise in order to start arranging things! Then you could do a buleria version of it! :-D

You just got hooked up Rick, thanks avimuno for taking the time to spell that all out. I may have to learn this myself, if I could sing and play that even reasonably well it should seal the deal on any date [:D]

rickm -> RE: la vie en rose tab (Feb. 25 2013 17:46:02)

thank you sir i owe u one

Sr. Martins -> RE: la vie en rose tab (Feb. 25 2013 18:03:00)

I guess this song doesnt need much singing skills... Vicente doesnt sound like a "true singer", more like a guy whispering something (which is good if your spanish is rusty, you can just mumble through the lyrics).

Make sure you change the girl's name accordingly, that alone will dramatically improve your chances [:D]

It's French [:D]

C'mon now, you guys are just a few vowels away from speaking spanish yourselves [:D]

Nevermind, I was thinking about cancion de laura... thats what happens when you open a few "posts since last visit".

Dont sing in french, unless you want gay men with moustaches [:'(]

Steve Wright -> RE: la vie en rose tab (Feb. 25 2013 19:19:48)

Here a nice video for you to imitate if you wish. It will give you a few ideas.

rickm -> RE: la vie en rose tab (Feb. 25 2013 21:04:49)

yeah no I searched on and off for years. i think chet atkins did a take on it years ago but there isnt a tab for it. you can find chords around in different keys but no tab.

More then doable, but it's time consuming.

rickm -> RE: la vie en rose tab (Feb. 26 2013 14:10:54)

I actually tried that last night I downloaded a version and downloaded a chart that shows where the notes are on the guitar and messed with it for a hour. either I got the notes wrong or the version was bad because it ended up sounding like poop.

Steve Wright -> RE: la vie en rose tab (Feb. 26 2013 18:29:47)

I don't think it's you Rick. I've had the same problem with every set of chords I have seen for this song. I guess it's all down to our understanding of the way Jazz musician use their chords. I'm finding it better to do my own version - but too busy at present to tab it.

At the end of the day, you have to consider whether you want to play the melody with chords, or melody with bass, or all three, bass, chords and melody. I'm sticking to chords and melody at present.

rickm -> RE: la vie en rose tab (Feb. 26 2013 18:49:15)

it does seem that most people when they try and recreate it use some jazzy thing that doesnt sell well with me. its their version so they are entitled to do that but i see it more as a semi classical piece. Im going to keep looking becasue i really really want to play this on the guitar

Steve Wright -> RE: la vie en rose tab (Feb. 26 2013 22:11:00)

Kees Nipius said he did the first part of the video in his own arrangement and then the second part was like Chet Atkins and that the tab was available. Of course, it was available at a price, but I managed to find one which is free and is a "Power Tab". So you need Power Tab Editor for this.

Anyone who has read this post - it may pay you to try getting Power Tab Editor from the same website I got the tab from. That way, there probably are no strings attached (sorry about the pun - perhaps you need strings).
http://www.acousticpower.com/index.html

The tab is here http://www.acousticpower.com/variousM-Z.html You will see it if you scroll down and find it under Edith Piaf's name. It may give you clues as to how you would like to develop it. Eventually I may tab it my way.

Steve Wright -> RE: la vie en rose tab (Feb. 26 2013 22:12:51)

For anyone wondering if this tab was free, I got it from here http://www.acousticpower.com/variousM-Z.html

Lots of interesting tabs here.

rickm -> RE: la vie en rose tab (Feb. 26 2013 22:30:07)
