Flamenco guitar chairs (Full Version)

I guess the reason why most flamenco guitarists in Spain use these chairs is because they are casual chairs with no specific relevance to flamenco. But they seem to be chosen for performance as they are obviously comfy. Unless....?
I'd like to get hold of one. Does this type of design have a specific name etc? These are from the La Perla Pena in Cadiz.

They look nice but they are not confortable and its not a good idea to rest your back on them, especially if you're a weighty person.. those chairs get all wiggly wiggly overtime [8D]

I think they're just called wood dinning chairs.........I hate those things, too hard. I got white dude arse so I need some cusion. A nice office chair with no arms and good back support.

I just put a small cushion on my armless office chair, works fine.

I think they're just called cheap ass chairs; you can even find them in Chinese restaurants. If you want to be a real Flamenco though, you have to paint it green[;)]

I'm bereft. I thought the raffia (sp?) seats were really comfortable. I use an office chair at the moment. I think it inhibits my duende.

i prefer sitting on the concrete stoop with my dogs playing around me.

Why would a seat made of hard wood be more comfortable then a cushioned office chair? I'd play on a large bean bag if I could.

If you're a thin guy, I assure you that you dont want to sit on those while wearing thin fabric pants.

They usually have an annoying wood bar at foot level, its hard not to bang your ankles there a few times, especially when pulling the chair forward.

Comfy? Yeah yeah.. [:D]

I always thought that was the worst place for a cross support......

The terms 'woven rush' 'rush seated' or 'ladderback'
Bring up the right thing here in the uk.
My teacher has a nice solid version with a rail at perfect height for
your foot.

We're not playing the blues here Rick.

You're right about the cross brace at the feet though. I still like them but I feel wiser now. And sadder.

I've always liked the look of these as well, but I've never found one that was comfortable for my large frame.

I've also been shopping for a new playing chair. All the chairs in my house are either too low or have arms. I'm thinking of buying something with a bit of adjustability like the Adjustrite chair, or maybe a drummers stool. Some people will think it's nuts to spend $150+ on a good chair, but I'm to the point now where I feel it's a good investment. No sense in playing through pain and discomfort.

Here's the adjustrite - looks like something you'd see in a recital hall. All the legs are adjustable, so you can have the front slightly higher or lower depending on your preference.

i spend most of my working and home playing time in a $200 chair with arm rests that are not in the way when i'm playing, i would think it's a very good long term investment...

I've used these at gigs, not really that comfortable but since I don't typically lean back much when playing its not a problem. Yes, they are know as "ladder back" chairs with cane seats. I guess they look spanish or something like that as one of our dancers seems to want to bring them to gigs occasionally to set the mood if you will :))
