Delta_Slider -> Flamenco scene in Germany? (Feb. 20 2013 4:30:00)

So I'm being sent to Berlin at the end of April for a small company conference. Since Colorado is short on big name flamenco tours I'm hoping Germany might have a little more to offer.
Any suggestions for venues?
Locals?
I'll probably have time to travel to Munich or near by, but probably just won't make it to Spain. That will have to be another trip.
Any hope, or should I start my polka lessons now?

"Germany & Flamenco", here's a thought that never crossed my mind [:D]

Iam not saying there's no scene there, I am just curious to know too.

Tons of flamencos in Berlin. Several groups, but i dont know if they perform regularly, like on a weekly basis. Azabache is one that i remember, and "a compas" is the only venue i remember by its name. There used to be a flamenco festival, but it seems it is discontinued. Munich, i believe Miguel Iven is living there and there is also at least one group. If you do some searching you should be able to find the information on dates etc.

Bailaora Maria Serrano is in Munich, also guitarist Peter Wirth. He has good connections to the flamenco scene. You can get in touch with him via his website:

Hope this helps [:)]

This is a great start! Thanks everyone. I was searching in such broad terms and nothing useful was coming up. This should give me a better start.
Deniz, anything (music or otherwise) that is a must see/do in Berlin, in your opinion?

Hm I'm really not a Berlin expert, i just have been there as a tourist or visiting and for flamenco of course. You can do alot depending on your interests. There is a nice museum [:D] (insider joke). Obviously you have to eat a Berliner Currywurst. Not because its so delicious (its ok though), but so you can tell your American friends that you have inhaled an integral part of contemporary German culture! [:D]

lol

To me Berlin is especially interesting since it's the heart of today's electronic music scene. If you are interested in that, i can take a look which good things are happening while you are there :)

I'll be going to Europe including Berlin later this year. This will come in handy. :)
