hi, dumb question here. are Hannachs generally higher tension than other strings>? my manz came equipped with Hannabachs and the seem almost brutal to play. My old guitar has d addario high tension on it and the hannabachs are worse. For a normal hand it sounds like wimp city but remember Im coming back from four reconstructive surgeries on my right hand so undo string tension is a concern. Im really thinking of replacing them right now even though the hannabachs are brand new.

Yes hannabachs are higher in tension than about any other string in terms of their worded designation (low, medium, high). Their website has the tension measurements for each set.

Higher tension strings are used as well as elevated action in some cases, to make a guitar seem louder in order to sell it.

Just go with a lighter tension Hannabach set. I personally think Hannabach Buleria strings are the best & they come in 5 different tensions, there's even a super low tension one you could try.

Go for Hannabach 827 Low Tension and then send me a pm to thank me. [8D]

i appreciate it but there is no requirement i play hannabachs. daddarios are fine and cheaper.

Then you can use EXP.

Comparing different guitars with different high tension sets can cause different hardness to be felt. It depends on the headstock angle. If the angle of one particular guitar is bigger, then the tension feels harder. In the opposite direction it feels softer.

Really? Because of the changing distance to the nut? Physicists please!

keith -> RE: hannaback vs daddario (Feb. 10 2013 14:17:39)

hannabach does not publish their scale length in determining tension but d'addario does--648mm. la bella uses 655mm. ideally it would be best to use a standardized scale--that is, all brands measured using the same scale length. that said, hannabach superlow tension strings are pretty much the same as la bella 2001 medium tension strings--so much for qualitative data.

as to headstock angle--don't know about that but the variable under question is string tension so if the angle affects a low tension string it should do the same for higher tension strings assuming we are using the same fixed headstock angle.
