Hi everyone. I just came across this forum when trying to find info about flamenco music. Looks like there is lots of info here. Maybe I'll even be brave enough to try to learn some flamenco guitar. Although none are sold in my neck of the woods, so that might get interesting.

I've been watching a lot of videos here but it's hard to get a true understanding of the sound of the guitars. I get the feeling that the videos probably don't do the guitar justice. So how does one decide on what sound they are looking for when they don't have the luxury of going to a local music store to try out some guitars?

Well I guess theres no point in saying "just drop over and try my guitars" I had a similar problem. Eventually took a vacation somewhere I knew there would be flamenco guitars.

I've been wanting to go to Spain for a few years but flamenco music is new to me. As for buying a guitar there, I know that it would be easy to get sucked into buying one that might not be as good as it should be and most likely overpriced. My pockets aren't deep enough to make that kind of mistake. The more I read, the more I am inclined to consider actually buying from a builder and not some guitar superstore. The problem is that I wouldn't even know enough to know what I would like or what would work for me.

I first started learning flamenco on a clasical guitar,which was ok, but my teacher had a ramirez and the sound of the guitar was such an important part of the feel of the music that I knew If I was to continue with flamenco I need a flamenco. I purchased a Ricardo Carpaio Blanca and almost wore it out from playing. This guitar is now my "take to the beach flamenco " but is a very flamenco sounding guitar. I stumbled on chance to buy a 1993 Jose Romera ...sounds like a cross between a Ramirez and a Conde. It is a blanca with tuners. This is my favorite guitar to play. This is the guitar I use for gigs usually. By this time I could play flamenco and my desire to expand my collection got the better of me. My next guitar purchase was a custom order. A peg head blanca by luthier Jose Rodriguiz Pena. Plays like butter and has a good rasp when played hard. To satisfy my whims, last year I finally purchased a negra...it is a beautiful Brazilian rosewood peg head by the luthier Vicente Carrillo. But I still wish I had a Ramirez.

Welcome to the foro! There are a few people here from Nova Scotia. You might want to contact them about where to get flamenco guitars out there.

Nice! I will have to touch base with them. Right now I am on information overload and I can't stop Googling flamenco guitars. So many nice-looking ones...hopefully they sound as good or better.

I also live in the Halifax. I came across Bob's name just thie week while I was trying to find anything I could about flamenco in Nova Scotia. I also found out that there is a flamenco thing going on at the Seahorse this coming thursday?

It says that Long and McQuade has a 413 in stock. I will try to go there this week to see if it's there. I'm surprised because all I've ever seen in there is classical guitars.

ya, when i bought it they had to order it because there was no demand on it. but ever since i started flamenco from that, i had been seeing it in their store when i used to stop by sometimes, im not sure if they still have one at their store right now, just call them up or stop by ! anyways, Come on thursday to the Seahorse for an early or a late show, sangria and tapas on the menu. 2 shows: 6:30pm-7:45pm and 7:45pm-9pm. $6 cover here is a picture from yesterdays rehearsal , Bob is the one in the middle, and I am the one on the right Images are resized automatically to a maximum width of 800px

The first thing I think of when someone mentions Halifax is Trailer Park Boys, most hilarious show ever....... Every Canadian I meet either doesn't like it, or has never heard of it, I'm always baffled........

Hang on, Kasey!! I don't know about these F&^%in arse clowns (j/k guys, well .. not really), but I was born and raised in Halifax and definitely not too classy to appreciate "the boys" [:D] You either get it or you don't, and I think it depends largely on whether or not you've spent time around people like this. Bonus facts: About a year ago I sold an electric guitar to Philadelphia "Phil" Collins!! LOL - hilarious guy and lovely human being. Turns out I had already met him like 15+ years before. Also, one time at a company Christmas party, Randy was rubbing my hair with a drink in his hand (shirtless, naturally) waxing on about how it was so soft and how he wanted to carpet his apartment with it. Disturbing yet hilarious.

Yes!!! Philadelphia Phil you say?? Baaaaaaam!! haha, those are incredible stories, how sweaty is Pat Roach in person?? [:D] jk. I grew up in apartment complexes with hispanic people in LA more then 3,000 miles away and the stories are nearly identical. The first time I saw that show I couldn't believe the parallel's, we're all the same everywhere. I'm glad I'm not the only one here. There's a guy I see every other day at 711 that drives a trans am and looks just like Cyrus and it takes every fiber in me to not just say "F***k you Cyrus!" hahaha, awesome, thanks for backin me up! Long live TPB!

whatcha lookin at ma gut fir? Pat was only moderately sweaty, but the night was early. So true about the parallels with other cultures, there are people like this everywhere if you care to look. Oh btw, I worked at that Freshmart grocery store when they did that meat heist episode. It was filmed when nobody was around, and we found fake bullets on the shelves for weeks afterwards. "Should I be getting baked for this, boys?" Good times.

To Lenador and Ralexander: Hey guys, sad news... Philadelphia "Phill" Collins just passed away...[:(] Sh*tty Bill also passed away some weeks ago... The boys are filming TPB3 and they just posted this on facebook. He was participating in the movie, so I guess it was an heart attack or something. Since I got to know the Trailer Park Boys because of you guys posts talking of it, I thought I should write this here. It's by far the funniest show I've ever seen and probably my favourite. I hope they make some kind of tribute to him in the new movie. I'm gonna miss the Mustard Tiger...
