kominak -> Vicente accompanying? (Jan. 18 2013 13:02:55)

Couple of weeks ago I bought an album La fuente de lo Jondo by El Pele with V.Amigo accompanying on guitar. I like this album a lot - maybe more than some of the VA solo albums.
Do you know about other albums where he's accompanying cante?

Isidro is a stronger presence than vicente on this album, indeed the tracks with one guitar is Isidro Muñoz (brother of Manlolo Sanlucar). Vicente is well known for the second album with Pele "...esquina blanda..." sorry can't remember the title. Poema or poeta or something. His best 3 offerings IMO as accompanist in order are Jose Merce "del amanecer", El Pele "Canto", and Remedios Amaya "Me voy Contigo". All three contain some cheesy rumbas (if I may be so bold [:D]), and some very good bulerias and tangos. For serious palos I would look at Solea of Merce and Pele, and siguiriyas of Pele. Merce does one letra of cartagenera which is not bad but the end of the piece is bizaar. THat's about it.

Ricardo

And with Camarón. I don't remember well and don't have time now to check, but if his contribution to Soy Gitano is buried in the mix, I think there's a video of him accompanying him por Levante.

I remember those in addition to what was mentioned above

Lole - Metáfora
El Pele - Poeta De Esquinas Blandas (what Ricardo was referring to)
Hable con Ella by Alberto Iglesias (single track with no much cante)
Medina Azahara - En Al-Hakim (he was accompanying electric guitar + cante i think)

I'm extremely bad in remembering names. I know i had 2 records of Pele and Vicente on tape and that i was able to buy 1 of them on cd a couple of years later. The other one was said to be out of production but might very well be the one you obtained (can't remember the name). The one i have on cd is indeed called "Poeta de esquinas blandas". They also made a record called "Cante" with lots of tracks floating on youtube.

Vicente might also have been involved in the very first record of El Potito. His first record contained 2 tracks with every top player of that time (2 x de Lucia, 2x Tomatito etc.) and i think Vicente was one of them. Again out of production and again i can't remember the title. I have the tape somewhere but no means to play it. I also have a t.v. recording of that period showing the 14? year old Potito performing Soy Gitano with Tomatito. That song is also the title track of the Camaron album that lists Vicente in 3 tracks:
*soy gitano
*el pez mas viejo del rio
* amor de conuco

IIRC, the early Potito recording was titled Andando por Los Caminos and Vicent Amigo played on an Alegrias. I recall the letras saying something like "toca la guitarra Paco y la canta Camaron".

Here's the Potito alegrias with VA.

I must say, that photo of el pele holding vicente from behind while vicente is holding his hand tenderly...its a very poor choice for an album cover[&:]

It's Spain. You know, a country where physical displays of affection of purely platonic nature don't cause people to feel insecure about their sexual orientation.

Vicente also accompanies a couple of tracks on Carmen Linares Antologia - la Mujer en el Cante... like that Potito record it has lots of different guitarists, Tomatito, Moraito, Riqueni, Jose Antonio Rodriguez, Enrique de Melchor etc.
