Hello everybody, I wanted to keep you posted on the latest course dates at the European Institute of Guitar Making. We have been running month-long guitar making courses here on the coast of Granada province for years with great success, helping hundreds of people to fulfil dreams of building their own guitars or becoming a Luthier themselves. (The courses can be taught in both English and Spanish).

While we highly recommend a month-long immersion into the culture of Spain and guitar-making as a superb way to rejuvenate, express skill and creativity, and take time out from everyday life if you can – we recognise that many people are not in a position to take a whole month out of their busy schedules and commitments. Therefore, we have decided to create an extra opportunity in 2013 for just such individuals: the Guitar Making Course in Two Parts = an intensive month-long course split in two, each module lasting two weeks in duration. There are six places for six enthusiastic students and the course fee is 3600 euros in total (including materials) and payable in three instalments. Travel and accommodation costs are additional, but good quality, low-priced accommodation can be sourced on behalf of students.

NB The month-long courses are still running as planned and the split-in-two course is an additional opportunity.

*** SPLIT-IN-TWO COURSE DATES:
29 April – 10 May 2013 (Part I)
16 Sept – 27 Sept 2013 (Part II)

*** MONTH-LONG COURSE DATES:
13 May – 7 June 2013 (now full) or
30 Sept – 25 Oct 2013

It's Nino Carmelo, I played entre dos aguas with him in a restaurant, he's a pure flamenco guitarist.

I met a guy in spain who built a guitar at this couse, they guy was from africa and used all african woods, it was really cool, it played very nice. I'd love to do this course on an extended vacation.

How is it you've got so many compas questions if your jamming on stage with monsters like nino carmelo? [8|]

I'm an improvising guitarist and I have much less trouble with flamenco technique or straight rumba beat (at least it's a start) than playing and having attention to compas such as 12 beat ones.
It's something completely new to me, while with guitar my playing consist mostly of improvised material(Such as playing E minor(/A dorian)/Em harmonic improvised solo over entre dos aguas rhythm, nino though played the straight paco solo), it has to change now though that I have to learn flamenco (other than rumba, some don't even consider it flamenco), and improvising and playing in compas demands crazy skills, and that's way out there for me.

Simply playing and knowing/feeling all the time where I am in compas demands a whole lot of practice for me(and I suppose to anyone).

I am at least starting to feel somewhat comfortable with tangos but it demands alot of work to wire my brains to it completely.

I hear you. That's still quite an opportunity to jam with someone of that caliber on a stage.......

Hi Steve,
the split course is certainly a great offer!! I am currently thinking about offering a two week speed making course at the Granada Luthier School, possibly in 2014. The organization of the Abril and October courses as well as pending guitar orders won´t let me have time for it this year. Anyway good luck the split course.
Saludos
Henner

Stephen Hill,

Do you make all your students wear all black as a uniform for class time??? [:D]

Great looking shop. I love a lot of natural light in a shop. Wonderful organization, I'm going to clip this photo and think about it when I set up a new shop.

Thanks Henner. Glad you are busy!
