Hannabach Goldin strings - why so $$$$? (Full Version)

Been using these Hannabach Goldin strings on one of my negras for about a year. Very nice sound and feel.

But, I'm puzzled why they are so expensive? Almost double the cost of the Hannabach 827's, and similar Savarez.

Does anybody know why they cost so much. Expensive materials? Do they last twice as long?

Can't say I've noticed much difference in how long they last, as I change strings about every three months, regardless.

Any string guru's out there have any comments. . .

Don't know about the strings, Britguy, but did you get in touch with Guillermo Juan Christie at the Guitar Gallery or the Flamenco Connection in Washington, DC for your traditional flamenco CDs?

Not directly, Bill.

Checked out the site. A lot of very interesting stuff listed on there. Little tgime to evaluate it all. I need to give them a call to discuss, etc.

I'm on my way back to the frozen North at 6 a.m. tomorrow. I'll call them when I get back, and have the stuff shipped to my US pickup point in Niagara Falls NY. Only an hour from my place.

britguy--probably for these reasons: gold used for the basses, super carbon fiber used for the trebles--definitely some expensive materials. additionally, strings from europe have a shipping expense as well as an euro to dollar conversion. lastly, maybe the germans are tacking on a few dollars to recoup the money they lost bailing out the greeks.

The Germans owe Greece much more for longer, not least from 1945, but then so do we Brits.[&:]

How much are Hannebach Goldin strings btw? Unless they make the guitar easier to play why the expense?

sorry for the "bad joke". i really should have said a lot of german companies are feeling pinched by the near collapse of the greek economy/european union crisis and may be trying to recoup some loses via price increases.

Maybe i will pay my debts to Germans buying Hanabachs and Germans pay theirs debts buying souvlaki and mousaka. [8|]

Not sure about Europe, but SBM in the USA sells them for about twenty-six bucks a set! Hannabach 827 Flamenco's sell for about 14 bucks.

Why such a big difference?

britguy--sbm in their description says hannabach uses gold in making the bass strings. that would explain the price difference in bass strings. the trebles use carbon fiber which adds more to the cost of the trebles.
