Wipe the guitar dry with a soft cloth after you play.

Does the fabric of the cloth matter, apart from the softness requirement?

Something soft that won't catch on tuners and and fret ends etc. A piece of soft cotton, some guitar shop sell a yellow cotton cloth, those are good, but swatch of clean decommissioned tee- shirt is fine. And pop it in the washer once in a while.

Apologies all around for going on about this, I should have just left it alone. [:-]

Remove strings
spray funiture polish on the fret board
clean with old toothbrush
(this gets along the side of the frets)
dont use your current toothbrush
polish guitar
check for cracks or blemishes
or dings like when you dropped that can of lager on it.
Restring , play for a while, as they stretch in .

LAGER! What kind of lager? How outrageous you clean it with lager, use ALE.

El Kiko -> RE: Best way to clean a fingerboard (Sep. 15 2013 13:15:24)

Cruzcampo of course

Morante -> RE: Best way to clean a fingerboard (Sep. 15 2013 14:58:55)

Cruzcampo is guaranteed to eat your fingerboard and ruin your guitar: only English football holligans on a drunken visit and poorly educated Andaluces drink it, cos its cheeep.

Use something decent, such as Estrella Galicia, Alhambra or Guinness[:D]

If there exists a worse whisky tha DYC, I have yet to know it. When I buy a litre of great amontillado from the barril. I ask for it in a bottle of DYC, as a joke.

El Kiko -> RE: Best way to clean a fingerboard (Sep. 16 2013 16:47:23)

No the Dutch have that one called Brouwerij de Molen DutchSky, makes DYC taste like nectar ...some dutch will chirp in as a taster .... not too keen on Amontillado though , not for me personally , and I lived a long time in Montilla......

Why is it that most advice threads on this foro degenerate into inane banter??

To answer the original poster ... naptha and a cloth, then follow it with 0000 steel wool ... thats all you need. ever.

No it doesn't matter how 'soft' the cloth is because cloth will always be softer than wood, if its not then it isn't cloth.

C. Vega -> RE: Best way to clean a fingerboard (Sep. 17 2013 20:02:49)

Bingo.

Nearly 40 posts on how to clean a damn fingerboard??? Un-freakin' believable.

It's painfully obvious that some people around here have waaaaay too much time on their hands.

LeƱador -> RE: Best way to clean a fingerboard (Sep. 17 2013 20:40:18)

You're all wrong, Bacardi 151 and 80 grit sand paper is the only sure way to get all the gunk off. [;)]

estebanana -> RE: Best way to clean a fingerboard (Sep. 18 2013 1:03:55)

Yeah? I said naptha and a soft cloth first so there.

NEENER NEENER NEENER NEENER NEENER NEENER

BTW the cloth has to be soft and soaked in beer.
