Nothing fancy, but this always cheers me up.

Yep, I should have lived by the sea, so some regret there but maybe one day I will be able to live out my life in El Port de la Selva - which I have loved since 1968.

I imagine it is very beautiful, have never been. I love the mountains most of all, but ill be damned if I'll post a link to Yodeling.[:D]

Great thread. Enough airing of grievances.[:D]

Beat me to it, but for pure unbridled joy, I prefer this:

And of course this one, for anyone who hasn't seen it:

Sombrerito de hule
lleva el mozuelo,
lleva el mozuelo,
y la pelegrinita
—del aire—
de terciopelo
—mare, a la orilla—
de terciopelo
—¡niña!—.
Como la pelegrina
es tan vergonzosa,
es tan vergonzosa,
se le puso la cara
—del aire—
como una rosa
—mare, a la orilla—
como una rosa
—¡niña!—.
Llegaron a Palacio
suben arriba,
suben arriba
y en la sala del Papa,
—del aire—
los dexaminan
—mare, a la orilla—
los dexaminan
—¡niña!—.
Le ha preguntao el Papa
que qué edad tiene,
que qué edad tiene,
y ella dice que quince
—del aire—
y el diecisiete
—mare, a la orilla—
y el diecisiete
—¡niña!—.
Le ha preguntao el Papa
que qué edad tiene,
que qué edad tiene,
y ella dice que quince
—del aire—
y él: «-Diecisiete»;
—mare, a la orilla—
y él: «-Diecisiete».
—¡niña!—.
Le ha preguntao el Papa
que de qué tierra,
que de qué tierra;
le ha preguntao el Papa
que de qué tierra,
que de qué tierra.
Ella dice: «-De Osuna»
—del aire—
él: «-De Lucena»
—mare, a la orilla—
él: «-De Lucena»
—¡niña!—.

Mozart's "Dissonance" quartet-

It's like a Shakespeare comedy which begins as a tragedy and then goes "oh just kidding".

A young Martin Hayes playing "Mason´s Apron" A really happy Irish tune and 10 points to him for not playing all the show off stupid variations.

But dont be afraid of sorrow guys. Without sorrow, no real happiness and vica versa

"But dont be afraid of sorrow guys. Without sorrow, no real happiness and vica versa"

Amen, I do not think sorrow is such a bad emotion. It is different from unhappy and depressed. Sorrow to me feels like an expression of the strongest feeling of love. It hurts yet can strangely feel good at the same time.

I am really enjoying the sorrow and happiness threads. They are exposing me to some wonderful stuff that I never would have found on my own. I know we aren't voting, but that Irish tune really evokes happiness.

The joy of a simple folk song beautifully sung

Gerald Moore used to remind singers to use the KISS method - keep it simple, stupid. A good singer only needs to sing the song, the voice does the rest

quote:

Yes I think sorrow is not taken seriously enough in the US. People tend to gloss over stuff that we should pay attention to. And I agree it different from depression, that is something else which sorrow can be apart of, but a non depressed person can feel deep sadness too, and probably should from time to time because it means you have empathy.

But in flamenco there is Siguriya and Alegrias palos right? You need to Tio Borrico after Shostacokehead.

After the great Gathering of the Clan at Christmas (26 people at Grandma's table, another table for the kids) we used to go to Queretaro for the spectacularly death-defying New Years Eve fireworks, then to Acapulco for a little sun and sand.

This year it's Koh Samui, but, "el año que viene," ¿quien sabe?

We stumbled onto the fireworks driving to Acapulco. Our old, cheap but nice hotel room had two second floor balconies on the town square. The Mayor of the city and the Governor of the state stood with their wives under our balconies and shared abrazos with hundreds of well wishers. After 3 hours of the damndest fireworks you could imagine, everyone went into the church across the square for Mass at midnight. My four-year old daughter turned and assured me,"They're just going home for dinner. They'll be right back for more fireworks!"

¡Feliz Navidad, y un Próspero Año Nuevo!

RNJ

My next door neighbors just rang my doorbell. When I answered the door, with their sons and grandchildren they sang "Angels Have We Heard on High" and "Joy to the World", then went on their merry way...
