FredGuitarraOle -> Hello from Portugal! (Dec. 7 2012 20:38:47)

Hello everyone!

My name is Frederico, I'm from Portugal and I started learning guitar by myself about 2 years and a half ago just for fun. I had never played an instrument before in my life and had no particular preference. A friend of mine played guitar and it was the cheapest instrument I could get, so guitar it was. I had some fun learning a bit of blues and other simple stuff, but 7 or 8 months later I found Paco and... well... I guess you all know what happened...
Long story short, I started learning my first ragueos a bit more than a year and a half ago, I have been having lessons for 9 months and now I practically only listen to flamenco.

I've discovered this forum back in Summer when searching for some tips about nails, but only a few days ago I realized how great this is. Seriously, this forum is amazing! Everyone is nice around here, there is a lot of material to learn, people always respond to others doubts, I could go on... And those challenges are the best idea ever! I noticed many people improved a lot with them. Also, very few people in Portugal are into flamenco, the only person I know is my teacher, so it is great to see all of you so devoted to this art.

Just one more thing. My teacher convinced me to post something on YouTube as I go along in this long journey of learning flamenco guitar, so here it is:

Played a bit faster than what I can handle, with half a dozen missed notes and some flaws in the compás. It's what I manage to do at the moment. I hope to look at this in the future and see my progress.

See you all around here,
Fred

You did an impressive job mastering this level in 2,5 year only. Wonder how you will play 10 years from now. You seem to have the talent to recognize/produce the goods (so try not to give in on playing faster than you can handle before it becomes a bad habit :-)

Hola Fred,

Great progress in the time playing! Sloooooooooow down. It sounded good but if you were like 20 bpm slower it would sound great. Join the newest challenge, should be right up your alley.

Thanks Erik! Unfortunately, playing faster than I can handle is already a bad habit for me. But I'm trying to correct it.

Thanks Lenador! I played it faster because I have many difficulties keeping in compás. I tend to slow down or speed up the compás when I start the falsetas. It sounds silly, but it is actually much easier for me to keep in compás if I play faster.
I have already noticed this new challenge is about Bulerías de Jerez and Bulerías de Morón. It's just my kind of stuff. I hope I find some time for it. I have a lot of exams until February...
By the way, just saw your banjo bulerias. Really nice.

Thanks Senior,

Faster is easier a lot of times, but not better. Seguirias took me much longer to get then bulerias just because it's slow.

Thanks for the tip! I had already thought of that but there are not many flamenco groups here in Portugal. Also, most of those groups don't have a guitarrist and they usually dance to the sound of recordings.

Thanks Kudo! I'm glad you liked! I'm working on my compás. If I post another old bulerías in the future, I will try to play them slower and with more accuracy.
