Conclusion first: always have spare strings with you!

I played a gig today with 3 sets, in the middle of the whole thing my D string popped at the 4th fret (which is quite strange as it usually snaps near the bridge)...i was with a singer, a dancer, a cajón player, many falsetas, many important D chords, trying to find ways to skip it was not an option...and damn i had no spare D string because i had used my spare D already and the sets i ordered im picking up tomorrow...
after the break we had to do guajiras and bulerías capo 1, so what i did was put my spare A string on, tuned it way up, i could get it as high up as B, then it popped...fortunately i could use it again, so i didn't take chances and i let it settle at Bb, and tuned all the other strings way down, capoed 4 and we finished the gig...my guitar sounded quite ****ty, but it was adequate for the purpose...

Before anybody takes this serious and asks what brand you were using, let me just say this has happened to me too many times with ANY brand string....point being keep spares always in the case a golden rule. Don't change strings unless you have a back up set already in the case.

Having a spare set of strings (or two) for any gig is GIG 101. You should have gone to a guitar store and picked up a cheap set of nylon strings earlier in the day before your gig, just so you weren't left high and dry. Next time I bet you will do that! A classical D string (if flamenco ones aren't available at a local store) is better than no D string at all (or in your case, a rigged D string setup)!

of course you're right...(i don't use strings labelled flamenco, those are the worst i ever tried)
im on a huge roll, i have so many gigs to do this month, i havent had any time to do anything but go from rehearsal to rehearsal...these strings weren't old at all so i didn't expect them to die on me so young...and apart from a spare set i always keep the last old set in the case too...i failed this time and it's a great lesson :)
