Lafayette -> Music Theory and Harmony for Doorknobs? (Nov. 28 2012 0:17:48)

I am writing music using MuseScore. I am enjoying myself and am learning something about music, but I have some limitations like knowing and understanding theory and harmony.

I know what makes chords majors, minors, sevenths and maybe nineths. Beyond that I am a doorknob.

Can any of suggest a good book for me that doesn't get too technical?

Ralph Denyer's "Guitar Handbook"

that was given me when i was about 14. There are other books that are "better", and I have gotten plenty others myself since then, but that still seems about the simplest and most approachable.

honestly, I would recommend searching free sites. start with the basics (learn to harmonise scales, learn key signatures, work out the "caged" system then start exploring harmony

each door you open will give you the information to seek the next one
