Beppe -> Hola from Chicago, USA (Nov. 22 2012 16:10:18)

I'm Beppe, started classical lessons a year ago, starting to study flamenco. Starting much later in life but enjoy it, hope to play many more years. I recently purchased a Pavan "Flamenco Negra". I'm enjoying it immensely. I hope to learn much from this forum, and would welcome constructive comments. I am also learning (with my teacher) using the Gerbard Graf-Martinez book "Flamenco Guitar Method volume I. It seems a bit advanced fir a "beginner" book, but I am struggling my way through it. If anyone has comments kn this or other books, please let me know. Thanks!

hey beppe--a transplanted chicagoan here (i have been banished to boston). there is a good flamenco scene in chicago. every feb. there usually is a major series of concerts (a few years ago i saw paco pena and others)--i believe instituto cervantes sponsors it. are you studying with a private teacher or at the old towne school of music on lincoln ave. or the flamenco arts center at addison and western? there usually is a flamenco performance now and then at the old towne.

Actually, I live in Gurnee. I posted Chicago because no one would know where Gurnee is!

I'm taking private lessons, more classical than flamenco right now. Thanks for the info. I knew that there was something in Chicago butnot what was there. I do find flamenco and spanish more interesting, but I am learning some good technique right now. I know the arguments about learning both, but I am fairly versatile, so I'll hold off on judgement until I gain a bit more skill, only been taking a year now. Thanks for getting in touch!
