bernd -> Effectiveness of flamenco methods (Nov. 2 2012 20:01:50)

Hola aficionados,

Paco Serrano has a new DVD out, different other guitarists in the last 10 years as well. As far as I know there is no really complete method available. For me it makes no sense e. g. counting a buleria from 12 around to 11 instead of pointing the focus to the accents as "long . . long . . short . short . short", what helps me going better through the compás. When I came for the first time as a non spainard guitarist into a juerga, I didn´t understand rhythm of the palmas as it´s done in a group, so it was hard to get correctly stepped into the compás. So I became nervously and couldn´t even step into the palmas for alegrías.

For learning flamenco palmas, you have to pay some extra charge on CDs where often they have no helping orientation to understand the palmas rhythm. As a guitarist, when we have learnt some basic techniques and can play the first falsetas, authentic practice should come by understanding the different palmas for each palo as in an authentical moment. That makes it much more funny.

The other lack (with a small exception of Juan Serrano) is that no manual contains useful info on palo structure. For example the structure of the alegría and why is the escobilla not in the beginning? How are the different structure parts of each palo not mentioned sufficiently in all the manuals? Why haven´t even all the great guitarists ever made a fully complete method?

Salu2
Bernd
