Aaron Green, american luthier talks about the history of Sabicas´ Marcelo Barbero 1951 Guitar. Sabicas played this guitar to record his album Flamenco Puro. Dennis Koster, studend of Sabicas, let this special guitar sing.

Have fun :-)

Thanks for putting this up Bernd. Glad you guys liked the vid. It is a very special guitar and in Dennis' hands it really is quite spectacular. Since doing the video Dennis played the guitar in concert at a festival, which was the first time this guitar had been heard in public in 50 something years. Since he is used to my guitars, with a set up to his taste, this guitar was quite a bit lower than he's comfortable with. It was ok for our videos but not for a public performance. So I raised the action to a more "normal" height for a blanca, which for me is just over 3 at the bass and 2.5 at the trebles. Well this change suited the guitar very well, it's louder and stronger, tonally, than it was before. Wish I thought of doing that before we cut the videos....

In any case it's been a real honor to have this guitar in my life and to learn from. Marcelo Barbero is hands down my favorite builder (other than me as I have said before). A magnificent 1954 blanca just walked in the shop for some work. Just stunning, he was a genius.

Thanks for making the video! In an age before it was exceedingly easy no less. It's seriously appreciated. Dennis's was the first flamenco book I owned so it was great to be able to see him rock out on such an instrument.
