gitanillotomillo -> Miguel Rodriguez for sale? (Oct. 23 2012 5:26:33)

Dear everyone,

Currently for sale on ebay. A '72 Miguel Rodriguez. Looks like a nice guitar. Does anybody know anything about this particular guitar? What about that name tag on the headstock? F. Cuenca, is that the Japanese factory this guitar was built, or perhaps a toystore in Spain? It certainly looks like a genuine Rodriguez Jr.
The seller stated that this guitar was built in Madrid and we all know (and see) that Rodriguez was from Cordoba.

And there are guitars made by Cuencaguitars that have Cuenca written on the headstock...thats all i know about that

Edit , I just was looking at Cuenca guitars website and it doesnt say where they are but by their dial code they are in Alicante ...........just out of interest ... maybe ...

maybe it is the angle of the photo but the headstock does not look symmetrical--the bumps and lines are off in shape and position. if it is the angle then never mind. if it is not the angle and the bumps and lines are off then i would wonder about whether or not the guitar is legit--somehow i doubt senor rodriquez would be so careless.

Looks authentic to me. Not made in madrid, Cordoba, even the labels says it and is stamped across the wood and label. THe F CUENCA is probably from a previous owner and he probably glued or stuck that on all his possessions (just a guess, but it's not part of any normal guitar build). I would think this guitar to be pretty valuable if it's in good shape.

It appears to be an original Miguel Rodriguez, although I haven't actually seen a flamenco guitar of his with a cedar top. Most of their flamencos were with spruce, which makes this a little suspicious, like perhaps a top replacement. Also the neck has been altered and sanded somewhat.... taking out the original stamped name on the back of the head. This is not good for a collector's piece, and may not be worth much but as a players instrument. In other words buyer beware.

i heard of a factory guitar made by a company called cuenca and just googled them. they sell two flamenco models that have a headstock somewhat similar to the rodriquez, but more interesting, the headstock appears to be an exact copy of a cordoba guitar headstock (or vice versa which is more likely). the models look suspiciously like cordoba guitars. the classicals do as well especially the 70 which has a spruce top and rosewood back and sides.

tom, in reading your post i was a little unclear about the stamp on the head--do rodriquez guitars have an imprinted stamp of sorts on the back of the head?

Yes, all first class Miguel Rodriguez guitars have that pressure stamped into the wood with the Rodriguez name on the back of the head at the bottom.
