EIR back and sides engleman top falcate braced Australian Red Cedar neck with Ringed Gidgee fretboard


And secondly my take on a Gypsy Jazz guitar
Australian Blackwood back and sides
Queensland Maple neck with Ringed Gidgee fretboard

I like your guitars a lot. It would be nice to hear some flamenco on the negra. The trebles have a nice quality. A friend of mine is starting his first falcate braced classical right now ala Trevor Gore.
The GJ guitar sounds great. Is it braced like a Selmer? I'm guessing not because it seems to have a fair amount of overtones... works nicely for fingerstyle stuff.

Not me playing, Jarrad is only 19 and I am considerably older.
Unfortunately I have no one to demonstrate flamenco

The Gypsy Jazz is standard ladder bracing, I think the secret is to use a tapered pliage in the soundboard before jointing gets you a very stiff and light structure.

A new design I've been working up, a little preview of what is to come. Thanks to John Ray who sent me some inspiring photos of Manuel le la Chica and Arias rosettes which I reinterpreted into my own thing. ( I've considered making these as stickers and in negotiations with Chinese sticker making company to make thousands of them so those of you with Conde' guitars could have a real stick-on rosette made in China. [8D])

Those are wonderfull rosettes. Very individual and very artistic. 10 points.

I prefer the upper one. Its the tightest. I´m not so fond of the outer lines on the other one. But its just my taste and nothing else.

Where is Daniel Staffler now? I haven't seen him since the 80's when he was living in Austin Texas, and did a Juerga for me in San Antonio at the house of Jose Linares, another fine flamenco guitarist. We were introduced by Dennis McMillan a good flamenco guitarist and publisher of old detective stories in modern paper backed books.

I always remember Daniel as being a very creative guitarist; I would say, at will, he could create a falsetta and have it sound like he worked on it for months. I'm sure this comes in handy for his teaching purposes. Next time you see him, say hello for me.

Those rosettes are really nice Stephen. I too like the upper one better; the lower one has a bit too much going on for me with the outer and inner borders. Very nice though. Both different and beautiful at the same time.

Just went away for quite some time from this forum but here is my latest guitar that i have built.

It's a replica of a romantic guitar originally made by Juan Moreno in 1830 in Madrid.

Here's a link to some photos of a rather unusual guitar we recently completed. Maple back and sides, Padauk bridge, Bubinga bindings, cap, overlay, etc. and a quilted spruce top. It's not a guitar everyone will admire but I find it very attractive.

The maple, Padauk and Bubinga is from a pile of wood from the estate of a local woodworker. He wanted it to go to a deserving craftsman and somehow we were selected. There's a dedication on the label but it's hard to read unless you magnify the photo.

Gorgous guitar John, I've always loved "tiger striped" Maple (like Anders violin), and have not been able to appreciate "birds eye" maple, but the beauty of the Maple on this guitar is beyond my ability to describe. Well quartersawn with promanant medulary rays? Really beautiful. I think the "estates" wood went to the right place.

We've had a few of those tops laying around for some time but hesitated to use them as many people don't like figured spruce; however since this guitar was rather outrageous with the sparkling maple and bubinga it seemed like the right choice. As you probably know this kind of spruce is a real nuisance to work since those curls grab any bits of dark colored dust. On top of that you can't use a plane and even scraping is dangerous.

I wish I weren't such a pathetic photographer.
