That would be the right way to take it. However, I didn´t say that I disliked the violine.
It is just an uncompromising instrument.

A guitar played imperfectly can still sound good in a way. And it can be played softly. A violine played less than perfectly will sound like cat music. And it can´t be played softly, with the dynamic range starting quite up in the dB.

Gildeavalle,

noble looking pictures there!

What you describe is YOUR taste. Nothing else. Besides that, you put in evidence that you know very little about violins.

constructordeguitarras -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" thread (Jun. 1 2014 15:58:57)

Pretty work, Daniel.

Ruphus -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" thread (Jun. 1 2014 16:02:09)

Now that you insist, may I remind you of the simple truth that suboptimally played fretless stringed instruments will yield significantly more cacophonous than fretted ones?
That is general circumstance and has little to do with taste.

Further with the violines frequence width right around speech range, its sound emittance and thus dissonances will be specially well noted by the human ear.
Again a fact rather not depending on taste.

And lastly, in respect of your possible objection to violines dynamic limitations, you could maybe post some soft violine playing? ( Comparable to a low volume like possible with the guitar for instance.)

Back on track.
The box assembled. The indirect light is in order to show the shape. With direct light it looks flat. There is still a lot of final touch up to do, buta that will be right before the varnish goes on.

Very beautifull. How´s your clients reaction to this "steelstring" look.
I´ve made negras with maple bindings, but I find them very hard to sell. Most asociate them to Steelstring guitars.
Flamenco costumers are in general very conservative when it comes to look and design. Even more than classical costumers.
They can also be very conservative when it comes to paying and again much more than the classical costumers.

Beautiful. I think maples are beautiful.

Very beautiful.

I like maple for binding (or in general). I've had guitars with plastic binding, that's the only binding I'm not a fan of.

Be forewarned, this is a non-traditional guitar but I wanted to share my good results with this pickup system, called the Fishman Prefix Pro Blend. It gives you a real natural tone and the golpes come through balanced.
I must admit it is really really fun to plug in a guitar and be able to crank it up (while maintaining a true acoustic tone of course).
In the video it's plugged in and amplified a fair amount.

Very beautiful work Ethan. I like the visual appearance of the rosette. The headstock with the pegs is as nice as ever.

Wonderful sounding guitar Andy. Seems very flamenco my ears.

RTC -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" thread (Jun. 19 2014 1:20:37)

You build beautiful guitars!

constructordeguitarras -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" thread (Jun. 20 2014 18:39:38)

Thanks, guys. Here's a sound byte. I'm a little embarrassed about my playing....

SephardRick -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" thread (Jun. 20 2014 19:36:13)

Like your saddle length

And listening to your video...All I can say is more people should build guitars that sound as good as this one. I hate to admit it. I found myself wanting this guitar...

constructordeguitarras -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" thread (Jun. 20 2014 20:20:41)

Gosh, thanks, SephardRick. Please do want it--it is available.

You mean saddle height, I think. The action feels a tiny bit high to my left hand, so the saddle will be a tiny bit lower when I get it adjusted just right. Probably not a visibly noticeable amount.

Sorry Ethan. My wife tries her best to remedy my G.A.S. [guitar acquisition syndrome]. Last count I own twenty-four guitars - not counting the ones I've sold, traded, or trashed. So, it a battle for me.
She thinks I need help and maybe I do.

The Saddle: I do mean "length". I have an old Vicente Sanchis blanca with the longer length saddle than my classical guitars. I've always like the looks of the longer saddles like the old C.F. Martin "Through" saddle. Most people don't notice longer saddles, but it's eye candy for me.

I love your guitar! It's stuck in mind while I write this.

Andy Culpepper -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" thread (Jun. 20 2014 20:48:59)

Playing sounds great Ethan! (and guitar of course)

Thanks tijereta

Oh, thanks for explaining that. I actually used to make them a little longer (I'm not even sure why), but then LMII started selling them this length, so I adjusted my bridge design.

Wow you do have a few guitars. It's always amusing when some of my customers tell me that if I call and their wife answers the phone, "Don't tell her I'm getting another guitar".

And thanks, Andy.

constructordeguitarras -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" thread (Jun. 22 2014 1:58:10)

Looks yummy, Anders. I would love to build one some day but I don't think I have it in me to teach myself how. Maybe some day I will get instruction. Teaching myself to build guitars was enough autodidaction (I just made up that word).

Because there are builders trying to build guitars that don't??
