Hey guys, been away from the Foro for a bit... here's the last guitar completed in my current shop before moving again. A nice blanca.

And here's another one almost ready for finish, 45,000 year old Ancient Kauri with Spruce top and Bubinga accents!

Totally awesome... sounds divine.
Beautiful work... thank you for sharing Andy!!

Best

Ruphus -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" (Jul. 23 2013 10:59:51)

Yep, one more applause for that sound ( and the playing naturally ).

The consistency with Andy´s axes seems to be that they are not only practically suited for the genre, but sound so flamenco with all of their tonal characteristics.

And the looks of the ancient kauri guitar are special to say the least.
Very curious to see it finished yet!

Thanks pink and Ruphus!

Don Dionisio -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" thread (Jul. 23 2013 13:48:45)

Beautiful guitars. What is the fingerboard made from?

Andy Culpepper -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" thread (Jul. 23 2013 14:38:51)

Thanks Dennis, the fingerboard, bridge, headplate and bindings are all Bubinga. All cut out of the same board. It's very hard, and it's in between Rosewood and Ebony in density (yeah, that's what she said).
I thinned out the bridge wings quite a bit to get it down to a good weight for flamenco.

orsonw -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" thread (Jul. 23 2013 16:04:35)

Thanks for posting Andy. I like the red colour scheme on the blanca, bloodwood bindings? The rosette of the blanca looks like another good one, please could we have a close up (also a tie block close up)?

constructordeguitarras -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" thread (Jul. 26 2013 16:10:58)

This is Gerardo Nuñez's guitar now. He has been busy but is sending me a trickle of things.

Looks beautiful, Andy, but could there be an extra zero in that age? I thought the oldest living things were about 4000 years old. Or was it dead for a long time?

Wow! congratulations on that. It's a great testament to your work.

re the Ancient Kauri: 45,000 to 50,000 years old is actually correct. The trees came down a long time ago. Apparently some of the logs were preserved without being petrified.

Naturally there is some hype out there around it as a tonewood but so far it seems like decent material. It's light weight and fairly resonant. I would compare it very closely to Myrtle. I haven't strung the thing up yet but the box seems very lively.
And it is kind of cool when you think about how old it is.

orson, thanks. The bindings are bloodwood. Unfortunately I don't have any other pictures, this is the best I can do [:)]

Congratulations, Ethan. This is quite an accomplishment.

Ruphus -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" thread (Jul. 26 2013 19:50:56)

Major congratulations, Ethan!

Seeing the nice guitar Gerardo used in the DVD I have, his choosing yours ( probably liking it better ) indicates what fine make it must be.
I bet you beheaded a fine bottle these days. [:D]

The 4000 year mark is from many years ago. Last time I heard of such, ... don´t quote me on it, but I think the greatest life-span of a ( still living) tree was named as of 9000 years or so. ( While thinking about it: Could be it wasn´t even a tree but a shrub that would sprout over and over again, or so ... Alzheimer, I hear you sneaking.)

Congratulations Ethan, great stuff amigo.

Don Dionisio -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" thread (Jul. 27 2013 2:53:23)

Ethan,
Congratulations. How did he hear about your guitars?

constructordeguitarras -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" thread (Jul. 27 2013 4:19:19)

I, modestly, told him about them.

Leñador -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" thread (Jul. 27 2013 4:57:58)

Wow Ethan that is big news congratulations!!

Andy that is the coolest combination of woods I think I've ever heard of! The client must be pretty serious business to commission such a thing. I love it, great work!

tijeretamiel -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" thread (Jul. 27 2013 7:37:39)

Congrat's to Ethan, G.Nunez playing one of your guitars is akin to a home run.

Andy, your guitars are sounding/looking better and better, the new blanca sounds wonderful.

I'm intrigued to the Kauri guitar, how it will sound. It looks beautiful so far, in particular the fretboard; which looks stunning.

If I was the prospective owner, I don't think I could take the wait!

krichards -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" thread (Jul. 27 2013 7:45:55)

Well, you can't get a better endorsement than that.

Well done indeed.

THere I am all hung over in the blue shirt. Gerardo had never seen those mechanical pegs before. He passed me the guitar almost straight away after that video clip and took my sanchis to continue class. It was a fantastic instrument I must say. It made its way around the room so some other foro members might remember.

My memory is a little vague that day but I think Felipe Conde came in the same afternoon and took up the entire class talking about his family history etc. Got to play two of his guitars too. You have to understand that this environment is like a guitar orgy. [:D]

Thanks for the information, Ricardo. I appreciate your filling us in.

Taking a breather from a while to catch up with you guys and post a pic or two.
Built a cutaway as an experiment a few weeks ago and have had several orders as a result!
I can pay my rent and eat for a while now! [:)]
They have various electronic systems installed from BBand to Quantum Trinity to RMC with the midi interface. I am certainly learning a lot!
Had a great visit from Jose Luis Rodriguez and friends last week. He is a great guy and great player.
Will post some videos of him playing my guitars shortly...

Jorge,
I can't wait to see these videos. What did Jose Luis think of the guitars?
Brag a bit, man!

Ruphus -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" thread (Jul. 30 2013 18:25:29)

After registering I discovered that some here build guitars too ( except of one whom I knew already as being a luthier ). And I thought like: "Nice that amateurs try as well". I had no freaking clue; hehehe. [:D]

Seems instead that celebrities can´t pass by our "amateur´s" instruments. And it appears almost like a tendency lately.
