turnermoran -> RE: Krazy Glue nails - how to get off (Nov. 1 2012 20:07:05)

My experience with natural nails, nail hardeners – such as Sally Hansen – and krazy glue, is that they all sound slightly different. And they all have different sounds, pluses and minuses. But I have to imagine that they all factor differently for different people. For example, my nails are plenty strong. I've never broken one in the act of playing. But what happens is they nail wears at the point where I make contact with the string. Eventually, this creates an uneven surface and the string seems to sink towards that area of repeated wear. So I use strengtheners and such to prevent this. I imagine that it would feel very different to have nails strengtheners if you are using them because your nails are thin and break all the time. It could be like nail Viagra! Anyway, my experience is that when you put a couple coats of krazy glue on it gets so hard that your striking surface Is indestructible. And it sounds that way too. It's very bright and glassy on the trebles. Sally Hansen similar but less so. And I never really had that sound with natural nails. So I think yes, you can change and even manipulate tone with these products, but then your guitar and technique become a factor. So you want a brighter sound? What about long nails w/ product vs. short nails w/ product. It all will have an effect on your sound one way or another which can be good or bad depending on what you're after. Health-wise though, I can't imagine a lifetime of chemicals on your fingernails makes you "healthier". .
