Well, it's October which means things here start freezing and the heater in my apartment is not working. This raises my paranoia about the safety of my guitar. Temperatures are supposed to drop below freezing this week. Is it safe to keep a guitar in temperatures that cold overnight?

It's not so much the cold that will do harm as the low humidity.

So, get a hygrometer. Even a cheap electronic one means safety. 40 - 70% Rh is no problem 30 - 40 for a short time is ok and so is high humidity. BUT the worst is sudden strong changes especially when dropping

Thanks guys. I figured the cold temperatures were probably ok. Sometimes I'm like an overprotective parent when it comes to my guitar. I've got humidifiers for all my guitars but no hygrometer. That seems like it would be a good idea and I'll add it to my shopping list.

If you have a closet or a small room, with a light ( light bulb), leave the light on and the door closed, it will not get below cero in the closet than.
Keep the guitar in the case in the closet or small room ( toilet?)

Below 0 this time of year is not -20 so unless you live in a cardboard house it won't get that cold in your house, and if it were to drop to 0, I think your guitar will only be one of the thing affected by the 100% humidity you will get from broken pipes.

If you aren't talking about a 1900 Torres or something like that, don't worry...
