Morante -> Postigo (Sep. 24 2012 14:29:13)

Spent a couple of days in Sevilla to see the corridas of San Miguel and took the opportunity to visit Postigo in his shop in the barrio de Santa Cruz.

He has extended and reformed it with a stage and the walls lined with guitars in humidity controlled displays. He has an amazing range of old instruments such as Benedict and Pagés. I also recognized an 18th century instrument which Rafael and I restored in the taller a few years ago for a collector from Puerto Real.

Also on display Torres, Archángel, Gerundino, Reyes, Conde etc.

He was playing a Marvi and claims to have given up his usual Reyes in its favour. I played it and it was excellent, well made with great sound and dynamics.

The shop has been extended with good taste and is well worth a visit for anyone who plans to visit Sevilla.

Hello Morante,

I'm going to Seville and Granada in January 2013 to buy a guitar, do you know other good shops to visit for new or second hand flamenco guitars?

Thank you.

I might have 1 or 2 for sale in end Januery. I´m 90km from Sevilla

Hola

Your chances of finding a handmade guitar on a quick visit are not good. A maker such as Barba will have a waiting list and any "student" model offered will be a low level Alhambra or Sanchis.

Postigo has a great collection: you could choose between 5 or 6 Reyes. But his prices are New York level, though a Marvi might be possible.

Have a look in SevillaMusical (http://www.sevillamusical.com/tiendaonline/es/) they have top of the line Alhambra and Prudencia Saez which are good guitars. An Alhambra 10fc costs 1,300 euros.

I have no personal experience of Anders guitars but would not miss out on the opportunity to try one.

Has anyone had a chance to play a Antonio Bernal guitar? He's based in Sevilla too...

He's the nephew of Val.Bernal who's name is mentioned now and again...

Antonio is using the name: better to visit the taller in Algodonales. Valeriano is retired but his son Rafa is making great guitars.

Miguel de Maria -> RE: Postigo (Nov. 10 2012 16:56:22)

I visited Postigo's shop in about '03. He had a few Condes under glass. I asked to play one, and he replied, "Are you going to play it or buy it?"

So I was able to try out a couple of his Postigo brand guitars. None of them interested me, although I did prefer the cheaper ones to his more expensive ones.
