I am so glad to feel at last that I have a path in flamenco . I have tried Solea for some time but nothing ever seems to click . So I am starting here , looks like a good place to me .

Kevin,

I don't know why you didn't have joy with Solea!
Also, I think Alegrias (or any other palo) can be taught in a less complex way than explained in this video. The way I learned was basically (firstly) learning the basic rhythm and the chord sequence using golpe and up/down i stokes.
Then once I was confident about the rhythm, my teacher substituted the simple strokes with other techniques I.e abanico etc.

Teaching method is the key. A good teacher can make your life a lot easier.

Good luck,
A

I think it was the slow tempo of solea that made it hardest for me , I'm still fooling around with it . I have strong rasgueado skills so this was no trouble for me , I enjoyed the palmas . I am planing to learn about five different variations of the compas to begin with , this was number one . I opened this thread to keep a record of study . Anyway this one is in the bag I'll go looking for another .
