El Polaco -> blond. vs amber? (Sep. 7 2012 14:04:56)

Just strung up #3 and compared the color. Decided to try amber this time.
What are your preferences on French polish colour?
I think I prefer the amber myself... Seems warmer somehow...

BTW the top is Reyes.braced . I'll post a sound clip this weekend when she settles in.

Both look great, I have one in amber, but like the blond.
Looking forward to the sound clip.

Where are you located?

The amber is definitely warmer, I love cold colors though, I like the blond.

For the orange one, did you do the "clear --> color --> clear" steps, or did you just go straight to the color (orange)? I've read that going straight to a darker shellac might lead to blotchy spots. Just wondering if you ran into any issues with that?

Sometimes it is not necessary to choose one. . . [:)][;)]

I would definitely agree.

The 'warmer' tone is more attractive and somehow has a more 'traditional' look. (In my - unqualified - opinion. . . )

I went straight to the amber actually. I think as long as the surface is evenly sanded i.e. very smooth there should be no issues with blotching. To be safe it's probably a good idea to do the first spit coat with blonde tho.
I may try a more orange finish sometime soon and then I would definitely start with light blonde.

The blonde will be the same colour as the amber after a few years. Your headstock is a little too high and pointy for my taste though.

Yeah I wondered about that too , but does it also follow that the Amber will be a shade or so darker as well.........?

Good point Kiko! And now that I live in America, "we want it right now" and we don't like to wait so we build already aged looking amber guitars. :)

Seriously tho, I like both. I particularly like blonde on a negra where there is a more dramatic contrast with the sides.
