Maniates -> Manuel Contreras, Juan Montero Aguilera Opinions Wanted (Sep. 3 2012 3:26:10)

I've narrowed down my next guitar purchase to a '74 Manuel Contreras primera sp/cy blanca in really great condition (all original, no cracks or repairs) and a '97 Juan Montero Aguilar sp/cy blanca that is new old stock. I'm just curious what foro members think about these maker's instruments.

I find the Contreras to be a bit more full bodied (both in sound and in size), possess really strong basses and trebles, and louder and maybe a bit lighter than the Aguilar, which I find to be brighter and possibly a touch sweeter.

I'm leaning towards the Contreras because I'm really enjoying the big 70's Madrid sound. The Contreras is also a knockout looking instrument, every detail is perfect. But the Aguilar keeps surprising me. Every time I pick it up I'm hoping it'll sound a bit worse than last time and make the decision easier. No such luck yet.

Anyway, are my assessments in line with anyone else's experience? And also what do you guys think I should expect to pay for each?
