johnnefastis -> colombiana foot tap (Aug. 31 2012 12:01:37)
How do people here tap their foot to a Colombiana ?
I am trying to tighten mine up to play without a metronome.
I guess you could go for the 1 and 3 like tangos or follow the bass line with 1, 2.5 and 4. Or really slow with just 1.
Any thoughts, maybe I am over thinking this and should just go with whatever feels right ?
Cheers

you might find the answer here, in the first few seconds
and again near the end

Thanks Mark,
Thats a great find, there is a lot going on there though and I can't quite catch it. His foot is going straight even beats but it looks like it could be 2 and 4 or something. I find myself wanting to tap contra to his foot.
Heres another which has a fair bit of 1 and 3 but sometimes he goes for every beat.
Cheers

at first I thought the vid might be slightly out of sync
anyways, there's not much time to pick up the rhythm/get into the groove before the shot of the feet tapping comes in at the beginning.
but if watch the whole thing, and tap your foot on 1 and 3 along to it, when you get to 2:07 you will (I hope) find you are in time with their feet.

think of the old vid of Tomatito playing Bulerias and Tangos - the guys doing palmas start the Tangos with pitos on 2 and 4 (and you can hear someone's foot going on 1 and 3 right from the start too).

and sometimes nothing at all!![:D]

I tap 1 and 3.
Columbianas have a "hidden" 123 123 12 feel (8/8) , but I tap 1 and 3 over it.

Thanks for the replys.
I am going to try and work on a 1 and 3 foot tap then.
For some reason I find it less natural than with Tangos, I think its because the bass line like anders says often has a
