koenie17 -> Terrible fire in Malaga!! (Aug. 31 2012 9:38:07)

Yesterday evening we decided to have a little juerga in the house of a friend of mine who lives on top of the mountain in La Sierra de Mijas(Malaga), we could allready see a small fire! Didn´t seem to be close, about 15 or 20 km away. This happens all the time over here. Some **** throws away a burning cigarrete out of the car window, or decide to have a BBQ(wich is forbidden in summer).
After a couple of hours at about midnight when we where just about to leave. We start to hear a lot of people running and screaming. And this is what I saw outside!
It was te closest thing to hell I´ve ever seen in my life! We had to rush down the mountain. My friend couldn´t go up there again!

It turned out to be one of the worst fires in a long time. I sincerely hope there are no casualties[&o]. But a very big part of our beautifull Sierra is gone now[:(]

That's terrible. We had a similar fire over our village in the Sierra Nevada a few years ago, started by an English guy lighting a signal fire because he was lost! Thousands of hectares were lost for years.

Stay safe.

Weeks ago, it was mentioned in the news about that huge fire in Spain that they found the causing cigarette and that it would be analyzed for the DNA of the responsible person / trying to make him out.

I thought it admirable how they manage to track down the fire source these days and even retrieve such a little thing like a cigarette stub. Hopefully that one person will be found and pursued the sh!t out of him.

There are so many idiots who just don´t care about anything.
Over here ( in a very dry country ) the majority uses their cars ashtray as a drawer for cash money, whilst routingly throwing out of the car window ash and glowing stubs ( and any kind of garbage anyway like plastic bags, cans, cups and bottles etc.)

[ Along roads and highways, wherever the wind gathers them you will then see spots littered with zillions of stubs.]

I think the only reason why the country isn´t strewn with fires every hot season is the fact that there are mainly left over shrubs anyway, with hardly any woods.

A part of Europe´s yearly summer fires are intentionally lit, besides. That is in countries with laws that allow release of nature reserves as private real estate after fires. ( Like in Greece, I think.)
Making opportunities for real estate speculation.

Thanks everyone for your concern!
I live on the coast, the fire wont reach this zone. But I must say that i´m very sad about all this! Thinking about the people that lost everything over night... Your house with everything in it, all the memories! All the animals that have died! The beautifull Sierra de Malaga all gone[&o] no more green, just black! It will take decades to grow back again. I always loved to go up there with my wife and children and disconnect a bit of everything... So sad[:(] In these dificult times we are living is has been such a luxury to be able to just be there and feel a littlebit conected with nature, no money involved, no stress. Nature doesn´t ask for anything back. Just clean up your stuff when you leave, and respect her!!
As i´m writing this message I can see and hear the planes and helicopters flying over my apartment trying to extinguish this terrible fire. wich is about 15 minutes away! My smallest son just asked me if we are ever able to go to the lakes again?
I don´t know what to say.... I´m sorry if I get a little carried away but I just need to blow of some steam[:(].

Again it seems that this fire was lit by humans! I sincerely hope they catch these Moth$#@fu&?´s and make them plant back the trees and restore everything with their bare hands for the rest of their lifes!

Also I want to send out my deepest respect for all the firemen and volunteers who are risking their lifes trying to fight this monster! Ole ole y OLEEEE!!

Now I feel like playing some Siguiriyas!

thank you for reading this.

They'll probably get them.

"A British man who caused a fire in the Sierra Nevada Nature Park on September 22 2005, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison and fined 10.6 million Euros"

Hope so escribano[:@][:@]

Don´t think 18 months of prison will cure these sick people!

Social labour for the rest of their lifes!!

srshea -> RE: Terrible fire in Malaga!! (Sep. 1 2012 0:11:15)

Aw, man. Really sorry to see this.

There's been a lot of that stuff over here this year. A couple weeks ago a fire tore through one of my favorite little parts of the middle of the state (over the mountains in the higher, dryer part. I'm on the green, wet side) and at the same time there were fires raging over on the eastern edge of the state. Some bad ones messed up parts of Colorado, one of my other "home" states earlier this year. And there were even more fires that I've already forgotten about.

Suerte,

Adam

Pimientito just moved to Malaga a while ago and talked on facebook of evacuating but didn't lose anything thankfully.

Here is a fantastic Fandango por solea, first letra about losing vinyards to natural disaster:
