Does anyone have any idea who Antonio Fernandez is. I checked out a guitar from this luthier but have never heard of him. The owner of the guitar tells me that it is a $3000.00 guitar but it is not a signed model. The guitar does sound pretty good though. I know that the sound of the guitar and playability is what matters but I don't want to overpay. The seller is asking for $1200.00. I would appreciate any feedback (Where is the luthier from, contact info, opinions and suggestions).

This is an ad for an Antonio Fernandez guitar $875 - could it be the same maker?

If they are good I'll have one! I like the way they call the golpeador a transparent pickguard - that could speak volumes [;)]

kenjo138--since you like the sound (i assume you have played it or heard it played live) and if the guitar is in good condition then you have two variables in your favor--and if you have played it and feel good with the playability then you have a third variable in your favor. that said, i suspect the antonio fernandez line are estudio guitars built in valencia. their website came up blank and i saw one at the bay and the close up of the label did not indicate where it was made which is not a good thing. the guitar clevblue found has sycamore sides and back and for close to $900 which is not a good thing--typically sycamore guitars are low end and for that money one should get more bang for the buck. for about $1000 you can get a navarro which might be a better guitar for the money.

kenjo--if it is indeed a factory guitar there is nothing inherently wrong with that as long as one test drives the beast which you did. factory guitars tend to have a lot of variance in sound quality, probably more so than a luthier guitar. since their website is non-functional the guitar builder may remain a mystery.

there is an antonio fernandez who it seems gives lesson or performs on youtube and it could be he has a factory make him guitars which he sells. i actually had, and sold, a guitar built by sanchez-lopez (2f) which was sold through pedro sierra's shop in spain and it had sierra's label in it. a lot of guitar sellers/shops in spain do similar things.

however, you might want to sent this guy an e-mail as he use to sell a few lines of student level guitars made by a few luthiers in spain (sort of like navarro does) and although he did not sell the line he may know of the line.

kenjo--problem is you may not find a $300 guitar that sounds as good as the A.F. guitar. then again, this friday, 8/31 there occurs a blue moon for most of the world so maybe you will find one this week.

by the way, the guitar you were looking at seemed a little over priced.
