Interesting Reyes price? (Full Version)

I'm not a collector or all knowing in the vintage market but every Sr. Reyes price I've seen is asking almost twice this. I"m not even looking to buy it but I just thought it seemed really low, even with a couple of repaired cracks (seems pretty on par with most old guitars). I thought it would make for an interesting discussion cause let's face it, we all love talking guitars. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Was '66 an off year for his guitars?

I would say it's normal. Price for Ramirez sobrinos de esteso and reyes are all around $6000 for vintage instruments.

the super expensive reyes thing starts with late 80's models, like the one Vicente or Tomatito uses and looks different. It's about collectors not play ability or sound.

Ricardo, why is that? I'm sure there is a good reason, but it seems counter-intuitive. It would seem to me that a vintage Reyes Sr. would be more valuable than a more recent one, in terms of collectability.

I've heard the early Reyes guitars aren't quite seen as guitars worthy of the same price tag as the later ones starting in the mid-70s or so...

What changed in the 70's, or is this just collectors perception as Ricardo mentions above? Knowing very little on Reyes history I am curious.

I have to disagree with Ricardo in terms of price of earlier Reyes. I have a client with a magnificent (and I mean absolutely stellar) 1970 that he paid close to 18k for. It's worth every penny IMO and is the best Reyes I've ever seen. However earlier ones do seem to be less expensive than the 80's and up. Based on what I've seen and there is no reason to believe an early Reyes wouldn't be a killer guitar. This 66 is priced pretty low, maybe they just want to move it. I suspect it won't be around for long if it's anything approaching a good guitar
