Hello, maybe someone here will be able to help me...
I have inherited a Ricardo Sanchis Carpio guitar and am curious as to how much it may be worth. It appears to be in excellent condition for its age. The label inside the guitar says:

Ricardo Sanchis Carpio Constructor
Carta, Artesano Núm. Nacional 77.759
Año 1974
San José Artesano, 28 - Valencia
Handmade in Spain

I am only a beginner/intermediate guitarist - should I just play it and enjoy it or is it really a sought-after instrument that really should be sold to someone more worthy?

Play it and enjoy it. Ricardo is an excellent luthier who runs a large family operation. His guitars now sell anywhere between $5500-$6000.

I have a 1973 model, which I bought for £100. It needed extensive restoration after a major accident and i now use it as my everyday guitar.

I don't think these guitars are worth much unless they are signed by the man himself. His workshop/factory produced hundreds of guitars each year.

And I think it was around this time that he started making guitars for Conde. Certainly mine has the distinctive Conde orange finish.

So enjoy playing it but don't expect any big money if you sell it.

Ricardo was an intimate friend of Faustino. They worked together. That´s why many Condes were made in Valencia. Do not confuse the guitars de Valencia (with a different address) with a guitar de Ricardo. The workshop in Valencia is not a factory, though various people work on the guitars, which are assembled by the hijos. Nevertheless, they are very good and great value.

Ricardo is semi-retired, but still makes great guitars from time to time, as a hobby. (just like Valeriano or Barba) Keep it. It´s old enough to be his.

Think I'm now the owner of this, or a very similar guitar. Nervous few days as during the test yesterday, the strings hadn't been changed for 5 years. So new set are just bedding in.....

Early days as strings still bedding in. More of a clear singing voice than a growly voice. A little more sustain than I'd expected - but I think it has exposed tnat I just need to dial back my hamfisted right hand work a bit. Played hard, it booms rather than distorts - if that makes any sense. Played normally, very sweet.

Not familiar enough with a variety of high end guitars to make credible comparisons, but I had a shot at Manuel Valencia's Baiilame this morning and tonally (to me) it was suprisingly close.

Guitar is a bit of a treat for changing job and the seller was an hour's drive away so it would have been rude not to. Just needs saddle replaced and it'll be a good'un I reckon - current saddle bone has notches from old age.
