I started smoking when I was 16, to be "one of the guys" in high school. Twelve years later I had my first eight-hour per day indoor job, working on engineering problems that weren't solved by the people responsible for them. A fair amount of time was spent staring at the walls and ceiling, thinking, "Now what?" Then I would light up a cigarette. I went from a third or a half pack a day to a full pack a day. Made me feel bad, so I quit. But my lovely young wife of a few months smoked, too. Over a second cup of coffee on Saturday morning, I would light one of hers. Eventually I would be back to regular smoking. So I asked her, as a favor to me, to quit. Bless her heart, she did. It was easy for me to quit, and easy to stay quit, no problem at all. Years later we were driving down the street, when she said, "Do you know what day today is?" Dreading the answer, I said, "No, what day is it?" "It's been ten years since I had a cigarette." "And you still want one..." "Yes." I bought her a dozen roses and took her out for a nice dinner. It's easy to quit for some, very hard for others. RNJ ...yes, I know I've posted this before, but I'm 74 and can pretend that I have forgotten that I did.[:D]
