Ron.M -> Dónde está Henrik? (Aug. 17 2005 19:47:39)

On Saturday, Henrik said he was going to a Gerardo Nuñez concert at 7.00pm on Monday evening....
What's happened!!
Have you recovered yet Henrik, amigo...?
(Took me a few days, I must admit..[:D])

cheers

Ron

Yo no sé, pero espero que todo va bien con él. Me faltan sus toques en la sección "audio upload". [:o]

Sorry Ron, can't help you. Just trying out my lame Spanish - every small opportunity is a good one. I have no doubt he's energized to the max again after this concert, looking to incorporate new falsetas and techniques he saw from Gerardo.

well Ron i just go back home now. (wednesday)
I think everybody should see Gerardo Nuñez Trio, The percusion player was the coolest!!
The humor and interplay between all of them. About Gerardo i must say. How can a man play so light and soft and sound soooo Big? God damn!!
Theres not enough words the express how i feel after that concert.
If i have to be negative about anyting it is the fact that he played only one piece that were not in an alternative tuning. A genuine "old" buleria. After a while these songs with diffrent tunings start to sound the same. But it´s not bad music. very pretty but after 3 songs the MAIN sound is that same. I would have loved to hear a basic solea and aTango or so.

It is obviously a big diffrence between a good player and a GOOD player

Hi Henrik,
Impressive player...isn't he?
I think these tunings help to give him a rhythmic base to fall back on (which he seems to do with heavily syncopated arpegios on a nice full "base" chord).
I've seen guitarists from other genres use the same kind of idea.
It stops an audience from getting lost in too many subtle variations by coming back to this full sounding rhythmic base.
Not necessary if you have a second guitarist, but is a clever ploy IMO for a solo player.

I hope Carmen Cortes was there as well...I was very taken by her performance.

So then Henrik...is it back to the woodshed for the next few weeks? [:D]

cheers

Ron

few weeks. More like the rest of my life. Carmen wasn´t there but the bassist did dance some bulerias and cepillo the cajon player did some singing.

LOVED IT ALL!!!

Im thinking... Tomatito is not a virtuoso, he is "only" a very good guitarist. Gerardo is at a level a very few reach. I would lover to see Pdl like that. what a dream

Henrik
