constructordeguitarras -> Lie Nielsen Violin Maker's Plane (Jun. 10 2012 16:41:29)

I have several block planes that I use for making guitars.
I have used my full-size Record block planes for arching back bars and the lower harmonic bar of the soundboard, and for trimming the edges of sides to receive back linings and back. I used one of the smaller block planes shown for shaping the backstrip and the top edges of the back bars and harmonic bars, but they are kind of crude, clunky. Now I have found that Lie Nielsen makes a Violin Maker's Plane (center foreground in the photo) that is more affordable than their full-size block planes ($95 U.S. plus shipping) and is better for all of these jobs. It has actually cut the time way down, produces a smoother result, and is more comfortable in the hand. I highly recommend it.

I've been using one of these for some time now and absolutely love it. I don't remember who made it but it's very similar.
