Arash -> Graves disease (Jun. 1 2012 7:53:08)

During the last months i had many problems:
Basically 90% of the issues described in section "symptoms" of this article.
So i went to doctor and they made a thyroid diagnosis and found out that i have this

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graves_disease

I will get medication and if it doesn't get better, i will have to do this radioactive treatment or an operation and remove the Thyroid. Then i have to use medication my whole life.

Anyone heard about this disease?

My eyes are getting bigger and my eyelids are swollen since months.

I am really scared that in few years i will look like the woman shown in the article.

[:(]

It's not a cause for serious alarm. If you receive the treatment or undergo radioactive ablation / surgery, you should get much better. Get well soon!

Escribano -> RE: Graves disease (Jun. 1 2012 9:25:43)

Sorry the hear this but I am sure the treatment will work out.

xirdneH_imiJ -> RE: Graves disease (Jun. 1 2012 11:14:33)

Man, I hope the docs can sort it out for you. I look forward to your future post when you feel well and happy again mate!

michel -> RE: Graves disease (Jun. 1 2012 13:57:06)

hope you get better soon man, wish you a fast recovery.

manche haben angst und gehen überhaupt nicht zum arzt (wie ich mit dem zahnarzt) gut dass du gleich gegangen bist, das beste was du tun konntest.

Hi Arash,

These medical pictures usually show you only extreme cases.
You heard what Ramzi said and he's a Doc.
Good luck with the treatment anyway Arash and try to stay positive.

cheers,

Ron

Get well soon, Arash. Don't let stress make your symptoms worse.

keith -> RE: Graves disease (Jun. 1 2012 14:52:11)

arash--bummer about having the condition. i see you live in germany so you have first class medical care available which is great. try not to get to wrapped up in the on-line medical info as it is easy to put yourself in the worse case scenario position. i wish you the best and as it often noted, having a great outlook on like, such as being a flamenco, can dramatically improve your recovery.

mottallica -> RE: Graves disease (Jun. 1 2012 16:57:22)

get well man

NormanKliman -> RE: Graves disease (Jun. 1 2012 17:09:55)

Sorry to hear this, Arash, and I hope you get better soon. Try not to worry about it too much. As long as you're doing something about the problem (the treatment), worrying all the time will only make it worse.

XXX -> RE: Graves disease (Jun. 1 2012 18:05:11)

Get well soon dude. Dont know this disease, but i have seen a guy in Rome who was able to actively move his eyes forward, maybe he had this too!

So if you do nothing about it worrying will make it better? That would be cool.

(sorry guys)

Get well soon Arash.
At least there are effective treatments, once you're sure about what the problem is you can fight it.

Anders Eliasson -> RE: Graves disease (Jun. 1 2012 19:17:09)

Very sorry to hear about that. I wish you the best. Go on with life and enjoy things you like. We never know whats around the next corner. To worry is part of life and even more its part of a dissease. So learn to live with that.

Arash -> RE: Graves disease (Jun. 2 2012 5:18:23)

Thanks everyone for your encouraging words.
It means a lot.

beno -> RE: Graves disease (Jun. 2 2012 12:15:31)

Sorry to hear that Arash!
I wish You get better soon!

Richard Jernigan -> RE: Graves disease (Jun. 2 2012 13:12:22)

Best wishes, Arash. Ramzi's opinion sounds encouraging.

BarkellWH -> RE: Graves disease (Jun. 2 2012 13:48:44)

Arash,

I have checked with a couple of medical friends, and they echo Ramzi. Apparently, threatment will cure the problem. In my (admittedly unprofessional) opinion, the best course of action would be to undergo the treatment prescribed and maintain a positive attitude. All the evidence suggests you will be fine.

Cheers,

Bill

Estevan -> RE: Graves disease (Jun. 2 2012 14:46:14)

Arash, I'm sorry to hear that - I can imagine that it's very scary, but it sounds like they know what to do and you will be fine. Meanwhile, keep playing.
Alles Gute!

odinz -> RE: Graves disease (Jun. 2 2012 16:24:11)

Sorry to hear that Arash, I hope you will get better fast.

I have heard of it, for quite some time I also had troubles with the thyroid gland, I have hypothyroidism, wich is sort of the reverse I guess, my doctor said it could happen because I take lithium.

The good thing about all these things is that today is that modern medicine is very good and you will be able to live healthy[;)]

I wish you the best Arash!

RTC -> RE: Graves disease (Jun. 3 2012 2:32:37)

Wishing you a prompt and complete recovery.

Arash -> RE: Graves disease (Jun. 3 2012 8:44:37)

Thanks again everyone.
Good to know that the forum is caring about you.

I also hope that the modern medicine will solve it.

I simply can't work anymore, i am always tired, etc.

Arash -> RE: Graves disease (Jun. 3 2012 10:39:18)

Can the person (Kevin) who sent me an email please send me a PM so that i know which member it is? I wanted to reply to the email and thank, but i received an error message.

Thank you

TANúñez -> RE: Graves disease (Jun. 3 2012 18:51:32)

Have faith in your Doctors Arash and faith that everything will work out in the end. The stress you are having will do more harm than good. Do not stress over things you cannot control. I am confident that you will get this under control.

Make sure you're drinking enough water. It's really important, especially now that it's going to be warmer in the spring and summer.

Munin -> RE: Graves disease (Jun. 4 2012 3:48:21)

I have been experiencing a lot of similar symptoms over the past months (hot flashes, getting irritated/anxious extremely easily, constantly tired) but my blood results came up fine...honestly, I would have preferred to suffer from this or a similar thyroid disease simply for the reason that I then could have it easily treated...now I am still in the dark about it, nobody has an idea what it might be and I have to keep going to doctors, trying to find something...

chester -> RE: Graves disease (Jun. 4 2012 6:39:16)

Hey Arash,

I'm sorry to hear about your condition. Hopefully it will all end soon and you can look back and think about it as yet another challenge life threw at you.

I wish you a speedy and complete recovery.
