Hi everyone. Sorry I left so abruptly. I have my reasons, some of which are personal and others which I feel need to be addressed. This is an alternative account I had started and forgot about quite awhile ago and this will be the only time I log on. So, although I left abruptly, this thread represents some of why I left; Lots of BS speculation and gossip. Don’t want this to turn into a long post but I do want to briefly explain a few things. So, there are reasons that I left and there are reasons that I deleted the account. The reasons are not totally mutually exclusive. Reasons I left: 1) The foro has been an unproductive practice for me as far as my own development. My goal has always been to help people who come into the game late and I spent many hours transcribing materials and sharing the knowledge that I acquired by apprenticing with two great flamencos. However, it is time to be more productive for me. 2) The foro does not come anywhere near reaching its potential. This is something that has always bothered me because in many ways, the foro is the only outlet I had while in school. To log in and find photoshop threads was fun, but when you are hoping for flamenco…??? Reasons I deleted threads: 1) Dead Threads The main reason was that there were so many dead ones as far as transcriptions were concerned. The short-lived tab feature was nice and could have influenced my decision but, there were quite a few that, when you clicked on the gp5 button, didn’t open. This mostly occurred because something happened with the file host. 2) Moving in to a new phase in my life Yes, for those speculating on deleting the threads as a career choice. Some of the material will go into my dissertation. The whole idea is to make the dissertation available as a book. For those that are interested, the book is a music theory for flamenco that is comparative. I compare flamenco with the many musics and movements that have influenced it; 17th century Baroque, 19th century Romanticism and Orientalism, Arabic, Indian, Jewish, Andalusian, Gypsy, Spanish popular, and jazz. One goal is to challenge what people THINK they know about flamenco. Another is to demonstrate the difficulties in comparing (Bb-D-Bb-D-E; does a jazz spelling-Bb#11 no 3rd- correctly represent what is going on. That e is a pedal and to call it a #11th says nothing about its function.) There is much more but the post is long enough. There are many more reasons and I didn't think it was going to be a big deal. I really thought my posts were insignificant. Go figure. To the people that made assumptions and didn’t even show concern for why I might be gone…well, enough said I guess. To the people that appreciated what I did over the years and maybe even expressed concern over my situation…THANK YOU. EDIT: @Nenedk: In response to Nenadk's comment that I benefited from conversations on the foro I have to reply that, yes, to some extent I did benefit (very little, I learned more at Norman's site - and even that was work that I was already in the process of doing. His site, and the Soler Diaz book, made my work easier of course). However, my scholarly ideas are all original. They are a hybrid of cultural and socio-historical analysis and musical analysis. @Malakka: Sorry about the lesson thing. People began to miss and I can't help but wonder if people devalue things that are free. It got to be annoying waiting on Skype for students to call. If that didn't happen with you, I am sorry.
